Pretty sure they're trying to provide fun and stable jobs for their friends

I feel like at some point in the last ten years this became one of the primary reason they're still an active band.

I imagine the obligations that brings must be difficult to manage - knowing that if they decided to split, they're putting their friends out of work. Easier to stick together in the most low obligation way possible, play a handful of shows every year, etc - it's not like it's hard work and it also allows them to fund causes they're passionate about.

They (Ed?) have spoken about how it’s a huge entity/enterprise now and they employ a bunch of people and provide their livelihood, and feel responsible for those peoples’ well-being.

There is absolutely zero chance the band sends memes and .gifs to each other in a group chat. And the idea of them not wanting to tarnish their legacy is insane. Even with the Jamily worshipping them there is surely a level of understanding that nobody has liked any of their new music for decades now.

Basically putting these out now doesn't represent any new revenue to them, while the single/album/RSD release do. They've already gotten our money for these singles. They don't seem scared about any lawsuits. It is basically them (the band? management?) being greedy, lazy, or both. Either way, it is a hug FUCK YOU to a loyal fanbase.
