I think dismissing the DNC - who admitted to rigging the primaries against Sanders in 2016 - trying to again undermine the candidate who will likely be the democratic favorite with "the DNC wanting to have some influence in making sure an actual Democrat is nominated to represent the Democrats" is bootlicking insanity. I would describe it as a literal attempt to stop the democratic process from functioning and prevent the people from having a voice in who leads them. Like, a legitimate, concrete threat to democracy in every way imaginable. It's the ruling class working desperately to protect the status quo that benefits them and crushes everyone else. So, yeah, I think this is a way bigger deal then, again, that dead-end farce of a trial for a guy who could be leaving office after this year anyway.

You & cutuphalfdead can debate what’s worse for democracy, but his description of how the party works/what it does is accurate. It’s not hard to understand why the party isn’t on Bernie’s side. He’s not on theirs. He criticizes them every single day. And as far as the “rigging” goes, seems like both parties have been losing their ability to contain things. The party is always gonna look out for the party, but they aren’t all powerful. I feel your general sentiment. I think lots of people do. Which is why things are changing. People just need to keep the pressure on them.
Also, given the news lately, it’s still no surprise that Trump can only be removed by losing the election. Part of me is really glad bernie didn’t win 2016 because 1) a party winning a 3rd term is super hard, and 2) I’m not sure America was ready for Bernie - meaning that he literally got on most people’s radar that year, and that’s just too soon for a riskier candidate. He’s in a stronger position now. I know it’s an unpopular argument, but those who said that Trump would energize the left more than Hillary are probably gonna be shown to be right. I could be wrong but it does seem obvious to me.

You know what, while I stand by my stance that what is happening in the Senate is terrible for American democracy and I resent LV's dismissive attitude towards it, in my emotional rage I was being way too apologetic towards the DNC's actions.

I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether we need more.
The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.
Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don't believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.
It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.
We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.
