Imagine experiencing this euphoric feeling about two times every year - for about 20 straight years - and that's what it's like to root for professional sports teams in Boston right now.durdencommatyler wrote:I have been on cloud 9 this last week or so. This has been an unbelievable ride and I'm still trying to process and make sense of what is happening.
When I was 10 I moved to KC. The first NFL game I attended was a playoff game. At Arrowhead Stadium. It was Jan 1991 and the Chiefs hosted the Raiders. The Chiefs one. On that day my undying hatred of the Raiders was cemented. However, I'd been a 49er fan growing up. Joe Montana was my favorite player and I'd watched him and his team dominate through my early childhood.
In 93 the Chiefs acquired Joe. And that was the beginning of my Chiefs fandom. It was 100% cemented in that moment. I was a 49er fan, then a Joe Montana fan, then a KC Chiefs fan. I never moved. I grew up in the KC area. I went to high school, Junior College, and University in the KC area. In 97 we drafted Tony Gonzalez and he became my new all time favorite NFL player.
Since 91 I've liked football. Since 93 I've liked the Chiefs. Since 97 I've wanted, craved a Super Bowl appearance.
What Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have brought to this franchise is unbelievable. Pat has stared 2 seasons. He's made the AFC Championship game in each. He made the Super Bowl in his second year as a starter. The Chiefs' future looks bright with Pat at the helm.
I'm over the moon. I can't believe this. I waited such a long time (and still not near as long as many other fans) to see my team, my Chiefs in a Super Bowl! I've been on cloud 9 this last week. I want to enjoy it and I will enjoy it. All of it. I can't believe this is happening.
I love the 49ers. They were my first team. But the Chiefs are my true team. And while I think the 49ers, on paper, might be the best team in the NFL this year, I think my Chiefs stack up well against them. Our strengths match up well with their weaknesses. This SHOULD be a hell of a game.
Good luck to you 9er fans. Good luck to us Chiefs fans. Whatever happens, however this game turns out, I just want to say that I love being IN the game. We made it. We did it. The Chiefs did something I always hoped they could do. They made it to the Super Bowl. When a college team makes the Final 4, they get to hang a banner. I think the same should be true here. The Chiefs and the 49ers did something amazing. Each team should hand a banner and enjoy what they achieved. Because it's special.
Win or lose, I'm determined to enjoy this. We did it. We made it. I think the Chiefs deserve to be here (as do the the 9ers). I hope it's a good game, however it turns out. The future is bright for both of these organizations. If you like either of these teams, please just enjoy these next few days. You deserve it.

I wished you good luck; was just trying to relate to you. I know the feeling it's awesome and it never gets old.durdencommatyler wrote:Stay classy Boston

All that said, I have to root for ex-Pat Jimmy G and that Niners defense.

Regardless you're a good dude and I love interacting with you. I won't hold it against you. And I ain't mad you buddy.
But I think 20 years of dominance is actually the opposite feeling of what I'm talking about.
You probably do understand the feeling and can relate but it's also just as likely that you don't remember this feeling I'm socially taking about. But I'm not here to tell you how you do or don't feel. I'm just saying what I'm feeling right now is very different than dynasty/dominance (which I can imagine is also an awesome feeling). And that's awesome.
But thank you for the well wishes. I do genuinely appreciate that. Hopefully it's a good game. But win or lose I'll always be grateful for how I feel right now. I hope I never forget this feeling. Barring 20 years of dominance, I never will.

I was thinking about the pats finally winning in 01 after 16 years in Boston without any championships. That feeling never gets old. Good luck again to the chiefs
I'm happy the game is being broadcast in 4K, too. I can only imagine that's true. Thank you, friend. And best of luck to the 9ers, too. Great team.
This is an interesting take/prediction to me and so I wanted to look into it.Coach wrote:28-10, Niners.
I think there is a very real argument to make to support that claim, yes. But that's the point. This is a game of inches. Can't throw that stuff out. It all matters in the end.96583UP wrote:Chiefs would have won the superbowl last year had dee ford not jumped offsides v the patriots
