Like I just wrote, Pearl Jam are working towards making their tours carbon neutral.

Signing with a major label to have your art distributed to as many ears as possible and going with ticketmaster so those people can go see your show and be safe etc. Is vastly different to taking private jets and playing shows for the private jet execs, especially when you're number one cause is (supposedly) the environment.

I'm still going to see them in my town, New York. And will still listen to the album. This is just weird. And I think it's a reasonable question to ask him how he squares both actions.
Do you want them to take a bike to each tour stop?
Where did I suggest that they stop taking planes?

Some of the mental gymnastics here is impressive, BUT BUT BUT charity.

I just think it's incredible that someone who has spent years talking about the environment would take a private jet. And I'm sharing that on a pearl jam message board.
So, you have a problem with him playing an event (for reasons unknown to us) for a private jet company but on the flipside you dont care that they take private jets for their tour?

Talk about mental gymanstics!
They take private jets for their tours? I did not know that. Eddie in his own plane. Jeff in his own. Stone etc.
you think they're booking tickets through expedia?

Since 2003, Pearl Jam has calculated the metric tons of carbon dioxide output from the band’s world tours. Those calculations are based on band and crew flights and hotel stays, truck mileage, bus mileage, shipping weight (miles/mode of transport), and the number of fans attending each show.

Based on this calculation, the band allocates a portion of tour profits to invest in environmental projects that serve to offset or mitigate carbon dioxide that was released into the atmosphere on tours.

I feel confident in saying that Pearl Jam would never have done this gig.

I don't get your point. I think eddie vedder taking a private plane is weird, at odds with who I thought he was, and if he is who I thought he is, it makes him a hypocrite. There's a lot worse things in the world to be. You disagree. That's cool. Like I said, I'll still enjoy the music. But really, really don't want to hear him bleat on at me and other non-multi millionaires, about changing our habits to save the environment.

PJ have never really been anti-capitalist; they've always supported philanthropy and big box charity - the truth is you can't be as rich as they are and be at the absolute forefront of economic change; I saw Ed trying to smash Ticketmaster but never the State

If they really cared about the world, they would take the millions of unsold copies of Lightning Bolt vinyl, melt it down and press Gigaton on it.

They could even withhold about 1000 Lightning Bolt copies, and sell them in the future for the ultimate premium. They could satisfy both their environmentalism side and PRAMG side at the same time!

Is there any evidence he actually flew in the plane?
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

there is no reason that cant be the case. you live in the world that is, and should try to live as well as you can within ethical boundaries even while you try to make it better

framing this in terms of habits misses the point that inequality, environmental collapse, etc. is systemic - and that solutions and change require systemic changes, not simply individuals changing behaviors

Of course. But dare I say private jets doesn't help. Also, you just wrote 'should try to live as well as you can within ethical boundaries even while you try to make it better' above this ...

There’s lots of rich environmental activists out there that preach about people changing how they eat (no meat), how they sort their trash, how they shouldn’t use their fuel car as much. Yet, they themselves fly from city to city on private jets. Worst kind of hypocrites. Worse than Trump, that doesn’t believe in climate change.

yup

it's no accident that giant corporations are deeply invested in telling ordinary, poor etc. people how to be environmentally friendly, instead of taking action on a giant scale, like they could be doing
