What movies are you watching?

Booksmart

Was excited for this, and felt really positive about it for about five minutes. However, it’s a sort of comedy, that is not funny at all. If they went the comedy drama route, or the hilarious comedy route, that could have worked. The actors are solid, the movie looks good. But it’s just sort of silly and loud, with nothing to laugh at. The music is all over the place, in nearly every scene.

Really looking forward to this one. How was it?

Much better than I thought it would be. On a purely technical level it's a brilliant achievement in filmmaking. I won't be mad if it wins Best Picture tonight but I don't know that I would have nominated it, personally. Not in that category.

Certainly Director, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, and Editing, though.

LEGO Movie 2 and MIB:International

Both ok, both made the plot obvious within the first 5 minutes

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Getting a headache from this movie. Most scenes involve shouting and stressful situations.

I found the movie really funny but I also don't remember laughing out loud a ton. I don't think it's that kind of comedy. Whatever it is, it really worked for me. I found it much more moving and emotional than silly.

But I think it makes sense that we don't see eye to eye on this one. Based on conversations we've had in the past, all three of us could have predicted the others' reactions, I think.

I found the movie really funny but I also don't remember laughing out loud a ton. I don't think it's that kind of comedy. Whatever it is, it really worked for me. I found it much more moving and emotional than silly.

I’m not surprised that you liked it, but a little surprised that you could predict that I wouldn’t. Especially since I thought I would like it.

They were a bit unrealistic yeah. The main problem for me was that its a retreat of pretty much every movie from the past 10 years. Nothing new, nothing to add, just a couple of cool scenes shot well.

Im sure Wilde has the chops to make something better than that turd.
