Was excited for this, and felt really positive about it for about five minutes. However, it’s a sort of comedy, that is not funny at all. If they went the comedy drama route, or the hilarious comedy route, that could have worked. The actors are solid, the movie looks good. But it’s just sort of silly and loud, with nothing to laugh at. The music is all over the place, in nearly every scene.Anders wrote:Booksmart

Much better than I thought it would be. On a purely technical level it's a brilliant achievement in filmmaking. I won't be mad if it wins Best Picture tonight but I don't know that I would have nominated it, personally. Not in that category.Anders wrote:Really looking forward to this one. Certainly Director, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, and Editing, though.

Fair enough. I have high hopes. But won’t get to see it for a little while.durdencommatyler wrote:Much better than I thought it would be. LEGO Movie 2 and MIB:International
Both ok, both made the plot obvious within the first 5 minutes

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Getting a headache from this movie. Most scenes involve shouting and stressful situations.Anders wrote:Uncut Gems

I found the movie really funny but I also don't remember laughing out loud a ton. I don't think it's that kind of comedy. Whatever it is, it really worked for me. I found it much more moving and emotional than silly.tragabigzanda wrote:Agreed!Anders wrote:Was excited for this, and felt really positive about it for about five minutes. But I think it makes sense that we don't see eye to eye on this one. Based on conversations we've had in the past, all three of us could have predicted the others' reactions, I think.

I’m not surprised that you liked it, but a little surprised that you could predict that I wouldn’t. Especially since I thought I would like it.durdencommatyler wrote:I found the movie really funny but I also don't remember laughing out loud a ton. I don't think it's that kind of comedy. Disappointed with Uncut Gems. Was expecting something great, but instead it was generic, and way too busy. Even the ending was poor.

I think that the problem with this movie was the the completely unlikable charactersAnders wrote:Was excited for this, and felt really positive about it for about five minutes. They were a bit unrealistic yeah. The main problem for me was that its a retreat of pretty much every movie from the past 10 years. Nothing new, nothing to add, just a couple of cool scenes shot well.Rangi Guy wrote:I think that the problem with this movie was the the completely unlikable charactersAnders wrote:Was excited for this, and felt really positive about it for about five minutes.
