This is the cover for the standard 4K release. I love it. Probably still getting the SteelBook though.

Do you remember exactly what was said about it in the movie? I remember there was a lot of talk about it in this thread after people first saw it.
Spoiler: show
About whether or not he was the original from ROTJ or a clone

Think it’s dom monaghans character (who is a professor in sith lore and practices etc) when poe tells them it’s Palpatine he’s back someone goes how then doms character goes something like ‘ancient sith magic..cloning ..only they knew how to do it’

Totally paraphrasing but th at was the jist of it

On the other hand if he is a clone (which I actually like better and wish it had been explicit in the movie) it takes some of the air out of his whole "it was always me, every voice you ever heard was mine (paraphrasing)" bit to Kylo. It still works, obviously, just doesn't quite have the same weight.

Unless we're talking about Palpatine putting his "soul" or consciousness into a clone. Which is definitely not talked about in the movie and kind of asking a lot for the audience to just go ahead and make that leap on their own. But also if that's what happened, how? And if that's the intention, you have to give us that info.

But also why is the clone so mangled?

I don't know guys, I think the movie makes it pretty clear that it's the original Palpatine and not a clone. Dom's line has no authority to it. Especially where the audience is concerned because WE DON'T EVEN KNOW HIS NAME LET ALONE WHO HE IS. Dude could be a total idiot who just spouts off whatever about anything.

My guess is, if it's in the book, the there was something in the original draft of the script. And at some point Abrams either changed his mind or decided it was too convoluted to get into or it slowed down the pace too much.

If he is a clone (and I can be convinced either way) it doesn't change the fact that introducing him in the final movie of the trilogy was a storytelling disaster. If anything, the clear lack of explanation or backstory for a Palpatine clone magnifies it.

Agree completely...in the movie, its clear Palps is the original one. Dom´s line is just a thought...he is a doctor specialized in siths? my god, were is that?

I mean, the book is canon, right? So there is no "if he is".. HE IS A CLONE.
