This hasn't changed one iota since the 90s though. They are applying a pre-Napster approach to their rollout, which was still based on a single (or select few) CD master making it's way through production channels, or in some cases, digital files uploaded via FTP.

What has changed completely is the number of hands touching their shit. There's no A&R committee to give feedback on the mix/master job, there's no huge marketing team getting pre-release copies so they can begin to conceive of the press. Outside of the band, Josh, whoever Josh's assistant engineer(s) are, and the mastering house, there's virtually no reason for anyone else to hear this thing unless the band feels like entrusting it to some friends.

But it'll still leak. Once it makes it's way to the CD production plant, and cases are filled with hundreds of copies, some employee will swipe one and then it'll get out there.

Nah, this album is gonna be great.
I pledge to be 100% boring and never troll-out again. I will make my interactions here pleasant, like sitting through an agricultural economics class.

What's the ratio of physical CD's being purchased for albums compared to digital services these days?

This will actually be the first Pearl Jam album where I haven't bought both CD and Vinyl

This time around I'll get it on Spotify & then the physical copy will be on vinyl only.

wait no, I posted it in the wrong thread:

I just visited the Pit and its new design confirmed for me that I'm quite impressed with the general art direction / aesthetic for this album and, hopefully, this era of Pearl Jam; it doesn't look visually phoned in to me, like Backspacer, Lightning Bolt and (to a lesser extent) S/T did; I hope the direction of the album itself is so cohesive and sure of itself

McCready denied the album’s existence just a few months ago. McCready is a proven liar. The album therefore exists.

maybe we've all heard it, but Matt played it so fast it was finished before our ears and brains could register what had happened
