You need to slow your role, Verb. It's not a good look. I doubt anyone in this thread doesn't know about Bloomberg's party switch. The point is Bloomberg's team is playing 2020 really well and with Biden falling off and Pete not being a sure thing, a majority will likely move to Bloomberg.verb_to_trust wrote:Hatfield wrote:Bloomberg is playing this beautifully. 2020 isn't dead yet!E.H. Four more years and then it will get better, as long as we survive the coronavirus.
Bloomberg was literally a republican just a few years ago, you fucking idiot

Quick rant: while I'm totally down with not having Iowa and New Hampshire always go first and second, I'm tired of the arguments that say they shouldn't be first and second because they're "unrepresentative". There is no single state that is representative of the entire nation, and there will never be.

I think multiple states on the first day is best. Or just randomize it.

with Biden at 17%.
Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg saw a surge in support with 15%,

Five voters in Dixville Notch showed up to make their selection at midnight. Two Democrats voted for Bloomberg, one for Buttigieg and one for Sanders. The sole Republican voter also wrote in Bloomberg.

You guys really think, in a general election, the Bernie crowd will vote in adequate numbers for the billionaire who bought his way to the nomination? I don't see it. Where does he make up these votes? I realize the general election polls see Bloomberg beating Trump, but I also remember those polls showing Hillary winning the whole time (sometimes by double digits). Those polls mean nothing right now.

The answer is probably not. But at the same time, it’s hard to see your midwestern prototypical voter that probably doesn’t exist jumping on the Bernie bandwagon when there’s the devil you know, and hey, he keeps telling me the economy is doing great.Rob wrote:You guys really think, in a general election, the Bernie crowd will vote in adequate numbers for the billionaire who bought his way to the nomination? I think this is the rationalization the Bernie crowd will use to excuse themselves from responsibility for a Trump victory, just like the "Hillary wasnt an inspiring candidate" line they parrot now, but for a Bloomy victory they largely dont have to. The election will be decided by a handful of states that arent particularly big Bernie Bro lands anyway. The combination of sane democrats, the 'must remove trump' crowd, and the voters who realized they were played by Trump in 2016 is probably close to the margin of victory he needs assuming a clean DNC convention. The question is how much damage will the Bernie crowd attempt to inflict on Bloomy between now and super-Tuesday, and how bad will it be.Rob wrote:You guys really think, in a general election, the Bernie crowd will vote in adequate numbers for the billionaire who bought his way to the nomination? I'm sorry, but after 3 surveys, the estimate was that 6-12% of Bernie primary voters went for Trump. They had a better showing for Hillary than her supporters had for Obama. Its so easy to blame the group that annoys people. Never any mention of the fact that she got millions of fewer votes overall, compared to even 2012, including among minority groups. Bernie supporters will turn up for whoever the candidate is, same as last time, except Bloomberg. Part of the reason he's in the race is to stop Bernie. He's been outspoken about this. You can't blame them for not wanting to vote for the guy who entered the race to spoil Bernie's bid.
And I don't know why people think a non-establishment, union-friendly candidate wouldn't perform well in the upper mid-west. He did well there in the primaries that were open to independents. The southern half of the country is where Bernie has challenges.

I 100% will if enables Trump's re-election, as I still do for his election in 2016.

Well, I just want to go on record and say that if Bernie is the nominee and loses, I will say it's because HE couldn't get enough votes. It won't be the fault of the Pete crowd, or Bloomberg crowd, or older voters who can't stomach the socialist label. No one is entitled to votes. Not Bernie, not Bloomberg. You didn't earn the votes you didn't get.

All the Bloomberg folks know Bernie can win, they just dont want their taxes to go up, so they're supporting the billionaire who bought his way in.

Isn't Bloomberg just spending a small portion of his own enormous wealth? That's VERY different than Super PAC/dark money/shell corporation campaign funding.tragabigzanda wrote:Ok obviously there’s a massive grey area here with regard to campaign finance, dark money, etc...
