this is true; my least favourite of theirs is Monster but I probably wouldn't argue if someone called it excellent
I would argue that their first excellent record was Lifes Rich Pageant. And their next was Automatic. While I agree they were consistent, they don't fit this topic for me.

R.E.M. never even made a front-to-back good album, let alone an excellent one.

You can’t name a bad Matt Cameron record. It can’t be done. They are all excellent.

It pains me to admit but Cavedweller was awful.

I thought it was pretty good but I haven’t listened to it in a while.

Lots of bands and artists here that don't fit the description. R.E.M or Pearl Jam doesn't either, but they are still two of the most consistent bands around. If R.E.M and Pearl Jam both quit in the mid 90s, they would have been perfect additions.

I am sure I would get a lot of argument about this but My Morning Jacket might fit. The Tennessee Fire, Evil Urges, and The Waterfall might be places of argument here, but I could make the case for each of them being excellent.

Pay attention. No, they aren't. But BS and LB are better than at least 5 REM albums. So...

At the end of the day, Binaural, Riot Act and Avocado were all let downs as well, just less so that the two most garbage releases.

Matters wrote:I’d argue that excellent albums are made up of mostly excellent songs, not solid ones. Just my take. I’ve admittedly never been a big fan of S/T. I like Backspacer more.

Life Wasted is excellent.

If having mostly excellent songs is a requirement for an album being excellent , wouldnt binaural not be excellent since most of those songs are solid instead of excellent?
I pledge to be 100% boring and never troll-out again. I will make my interactions here pleasant, like sitting through an agricultural economics class.
