Why are they so content with feeling so lightweight anymore
This was clearly written to be a lightweight song. I don't want a whole album of these, but I don't think that's a knock on this as a song.
Odd choice for a second single

I don't like the layered Ed shouts. Really, really don't like them. Changes the tone from fun & fine to something worse for me.

What comes after this on the album?

Really digging the chorus (?) and the backing vocals shouts during the verses (?).
Ed deliver is good most part of it and guitar work is better than I was expecting after the preview clip (except for the solo).
Some Lost Dogs vibes right there (and actually not even close to Backspacer imo)

I do think the solo is badass... but I am an Eddie Van Halen fan. The breakdown coming out of the solo sounds like it was pieced together from another song, though.
The whole things is rather ADHD. YouTubes says Ed plays guitar. So, it's probably an Ed song?

The best thing is that DotC comes on right after, too bad it’s not 3:50 sooner.

Yes. It’s save you mixed with getaway.
Jonathan Cohen has described Mike McCready's solo in that song as 'sizzling' ?
How sizzling would you say we are talking here?
A) Low and steady enough to heat a sunnyside egg
B) Hot enough to cook a philly cheesesteak but not burn
C) Hibachi Onion Volcano Fireball

The first minute could defintiely stand to be a bit heavier/dirtier - it would make the contrast with the lalalala part stronger (which I do like). I do like the main riff when it picks up again around 1:10. I wish they repeated the lalalla part - the spokenish word bit that replaces it the second time doesn't do a ton for me.
Once Mike's solo kicks in (more to mark a transition than any love for that part) the song kciks up a notch. I'm with hlnv on that. The last minute is the best part

It definitely feels like several different songs, yet I'm finding melodies I like all throughout.

Too much fucking spastic word soup from Ed. Ugh. Why. The composition isn't horrible, but the lyrics are all over the place with no discernible chorus. The solo is a wanna-be Van Halen thing, which fine. The end is probably the best part because Ed chills out. Definitely a Johnny Guitar vibe and I'd argue that song at least has a better bridge.

I do like it, but this has always been the territory of theirs I like the least.
