I don't hate it. What I don't like is Ed's voice. Maybe too much compression on the vocal track - just no definition.

Guys, this is so much fun. I’m digging this song with wild abandon. I’m boning up over here.

I've been wanting to know what sort of 80s reference to make about the early part of this song without just dumbly saying "80s vibe". I don't know if this is it, but it might be. I'm into that quality of it, even if I'm going to need someone else to articulate it better.Donald wrote:I'm getting a kind of Split Enz vibe off this

I’m going to enjoy this. May never get new Pearl Jam again.

I really, really don't hear this -- it feels like people are mistaking an erratic, all-over-the-place vocal performance for some kind of imagined, untampered-with genuineness. This absolutely does not have a lightning-in-a-bottle, "band was cutting loose in the studio and the producer managed to click record at just the right time" feel to me; the approach and ultimate sonic character may be different but finally it seems just as dolled up and studiofied as anything on Lightning Bolt.evenslow wrote:this shit is more unhinged than you guys are giving it credit for. the buildup to mike's insane solo into the bridge into the outro is balls to the wall to notch.
I don't think I agree with this either; I think this kind of disjointed, this-part-doesn't-feel-like-it-goes-with-that-part frankensteining has been a weakness of their records for a long time now. I don't know that that registers as "compositional oddity" to me. It's not like "Evacuation" or "Cropduster" where there are musical conventions being bucked in a meticulous, deliberate way; it just feels like careless songwriting.digster wrote:To its credit, I'd agree with this; the oddities of this song's construction would never have showed up (with one or two exceptions) on their last few records.

I still like that Ed's voice is sitting back in the mix with the band, and I can't hear what he's snarling and mumbling, like in good PJ songs

Guys, this song is fucking awesome. I’m totally into it.

After sixth listen: 3/5
We'll see what the future holds. G'nite. To those loving it, enjoy the hell out of it.

Re: Superblood Wolfmoon
the super fast moment from the solo into the clip we had heard before is fucking great and hasn't been done in the pj catalogue. MINUTE 2:49 ftw.

I don't love it, but these are my least favourite type of PJ songs, including on Riot Act; but the fact that I wouldn't be embarrassed if this followed "Get Right" in a playlist makes me feel fine
