Blenheim Augustine wrote:I seem to like this a lot more than everyone here. Jeff and Matt grooving again. Jeff's bass tone is badass. And the various sections give it a much better structure than the straight ahead rock feel indicated from the opening chords. Vocal melody is strong - the sloppy bah da da bit is clearly intentional. Mike's solo is panned a bit far left for me but it is looser and more like him than some of the solos on Lightning Bolt which sounded like he'd played it 50 times until Brendan was happy. This sounds like a second take which I prefer.

I just hope all the songs don't start with Matt drumming by himself. Was waiting for My Sharona to start.

agree with all of this

I like the distorted bass behind the crunchy guitars, they haven't made those decisions for a while

I like lost dogs type songs with a ragged guitar sound so I'm ok with this song in general
The jarring structure keeps it interesting
production seems to be better than the last two albums, (not sure yet, its too fresh)
I like that eds being wacky.

negatives.
It kinda feels like johnny guitar 2 with plainer drums and singalongs for the stadium
this isn't a departure from the last two albums
its not a good track 2.
its not that good.
why wont matt be interesting?
the guitar sounds duplicated and artificial in places, rather than a 3 guitar attack like save you.

I wonder if this is from the CDM sessions. :?: Im slightly enjoying it now cause its new. but its going to fall in the pile of average songs post 02 for me.
I think most of this is true

"why won't Matt be interesting?" is a constant whole ass mood

LMAO that you dolts genuinely thought Gigaton would be different and weird based on the one token weird song they always throw on an bun. Just lmao, did you HONESTLY expect PJ to release something that wasn't complete dreck given the last 15 years of the band? LMFAO if you still think this band is any good. I CANNOT Zbelieve how STUPID and naive this board is...I'm typing this in class and everyone's giving me weird looks because I'm just luaghibg too hard and shaking my head....

i like that eddie’s voice is a bit more buried like the old days, but i’m still getting around what this song is. the part that gets stuck in my head at the moment is the “superblood wolfmoon tookeraway too soon” from the clip and the intro and it’s not it a good way, it’s annoying.

there are parts of this song that i think, if repeated, could have made the song better. and there are parts that could be removed to make the song better, such as (in) the aforementioned (verse) part.

I took a shot at this with some edits but I really have no idea in a few spots.

It's all over the place yet never really goes anywhere.

It's not what I expected or what I was hoping for.

The song gets a little better after the solo, but is overall pretty blah.

This probably should have been a lost dog.

what he’s doing on the second floor tom to his left is one of my favourite things in the song and very creative imho. not to mention he’s playing along to some electric hi hats that he programmed in. he’s a huge creative force in the song.

i really dislike those superblood wolfmoon parts. take them out and the song would go up a notch.

the lyrics seem not too bad.

It’s just tempered the expectation really. It has been since Riot Act that there was a creative energy surplus and since its ideas stretched beyond capacity. With LB the conviction wasn’t there and the production exposed the lack of inspiration too.

Seven years to play with new sounds and chord structures, to experiment and see the world from a different perspective to bring back to the band and it’s a lyrical rewrite of Johnny Guitar and Lightning Bolt themes. It’s not a terrible song but of this is the second single and such a drop off from DOTC. Yeah, I didn’t PJ would become like a legacy band with such vigour.

It’s not their age either. Neil Young has piss and vinegar in him, Radiohead’s last album was refreshing and check out the guitar on songs like Desert Island Disks... open tuning and something different, daydreaming deconstructing the way they write and the effects they use for something new. PJ used to augment those chords and use grooves to make exciting rock music. When they stopped that they used interesting textures and atmospherelike in Binaural and Riot Act.

Now it’s the time-clock album of Avocado, song doctors (Bob’s role) finishing songs on BS and the ‘meh this will do’ staid Lightning Bolt.

I’m just disappointed after DOTC, had my hopes up that this would that level and surprise us that they could pull off one last trick and write something to justify their relevancy again but this ain’t it.

I don't know, don't they have people around them who can honestly stand up and say, guys, stop, don't release this, it's shit!

Couldn't agree more - I get that there's clearly one or two (Mike, maybe Ed) who come into a recording session and say "I want to record a rocker" - let it happen, and then consign it to the b-sides!

Those who called out Big Wave, Supersonic, LTRP...it all applies

I know what he's doing and I think "huge creative force" is over-selling it, but I'm glad you're happy, being happy is good

I'm not unhappy or disappointed, I think Gigaton will leave me satisfied at this rate and stage of the band
