Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
If KidCMinus can see my post, I would really like to know what he has to say about the other rockers on this album in comparison to Superblood Wolfmoon. Specifically, are they also fast paced as far as the vocal delivery goes, with Ed singing wordy lyrics as opposed to a more deliberate pace on songs such as Corduroy? This will help set expectations for the other rockers because stylistically, I much prefer the songs which 'breathe' a bit as opposed to the more punk/garage rock oriented songs that move at breakneck speed. Not that I mind the latter if done well but I would rather have a Corduroy than a STBC to listen to on repeat.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

For the record, I like SBWM as a standalone track while also hoping that it isn't the template for the other rockers on this album. I would much rather that Who Ever Said and the other songs which are supposed to be harder rocking have a different type of vibe, both in seriousness and the pace of the song (particularly Ed's singing and lyrics). I'm thinking Not For You as a good example of a rocker where Ed ratchets up the intensity without singing at a million miles an hour. Last Exit, too.

Okay, I'm 0/2 so far with this album, and that kumbaya pipe organ song doesn't sound promising either. Best I can hope for with the other tracks is that they're at least somewhat guided by the same spirit of creative exploration that spawned DOTC; even if I'm lukewarm on that song in general, I like that it seems to have been born out of a artistic restlessness that's been absent from their stuff for a while

I think there's a 0% chance that you're going to enjoy this new pearl jam album. SBWM has me fearing that this is just going to be another bs/lb turd except this time they accidentally made one good song (that you don't even like)theplatypus wrote:Okay, I'm 0/2 so far with this album, and that kumbaya pipe organ song doesn't sound promising either. I'm mildly concerned about this album now. At least we have the new Grimes album.

DotC is better than anything on Backspacer and probably LB. But SBWM is as bad as anything on Backspacer, which for me, is really bad.

I see. I really like Johnny Guitar from Backspacer. SBWM reminds me a bit of that song.

the sound on both of these seems like they are trying new stuff. i assume this is the new producer? or eddie mixing everything himself? either way, im excited, this should be an interesting album.

I liked it more on DotC, but I think both really improve on Lightning Bolt

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
Cancelled my pre-order on the back of the new song.
It's just serviceable with Ed and Mike trying to make it engaging but it's not. Just distraction like alot of their output since 2006. It's just the same stuff with something to make it novel. The air went right out of anticipating the album
DOTC had me hoping that they had stopped with wink wink "punk rock" that they couldn't pull off in their angry 30's let alone their lazy 50s. But this riff sounds rehashed from Avocado.
Ed is following Bono's trajectory of earnest frontman to...humorous? or FUN!? frontman. This ended for Bono on a song called 'Stand Up Comedy' and listen to that song which is equidistant from bland and cringe and take heed. It will not get better, but it will not get worse. Ed's Dan Akroyd/Ghostbuster song was a warning shot. They may be something like that on Gigaton, and I'm not willing to take a chance in possessing an album with that on it.
