If this song was released as the first single,I would not be excited about the new album. However, releasing this as the second single makes sense to me with the "risk" they took with DOTC. They needed to feed the jamily with something a bit more similar.

I hope the remaining tracks on the album flesh it all out and we end up with something worthwhile.

Given the two week spread of first release to this second one. I wonder if they just decided to release a handful of songs leading up to the album release. So can we expect another one in a couple of weeks?

Its been about a month since DOTC was released, so im sure this will be the last one as the album is released in just about a month.

It was said last night, but this is not a midnight song. First listen today and I can imagine myself bumping this to a 4 someday.

guys, it's not the music, it's the 105 different vocal melodies, none of which is any good, that ruin this song.

Some random thoughts...

I think maybe if the band released songs more often and spread Ed's lyrics out, he might stop feeling compelled to crowbar every single word he has in his notebook into the ones they do actually write and release...Very busy for him at this stage of the game.

Whatever one thinks of this particular song, I like that it seems as if they are at least exploring some diverse sides of their collective chemistry on this record. Bands like Cheap Trick, The Kinks, Talking Heads, and Van Halen have always been a part of the make-up.

At this point in a band's lifespan, what would have once been considered a b-side often becomes the album track. There's no shame in it.
There are very, very few bands who can maintain a certain level of creative restlessness after such a long time; most just continue mining the same veins to diminishing returns, and, occasionally, if they're lucky, they may stumble onto some new wrinkle.

The albums are like signposts to me, postcards on a journey. As long as they're still out there and enjoying what they're collectively doing, I'm appreciative.
Doesn't mean I love the song, it's just where they are now.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

the 2nd verse just kills it for me. so many words, saying so little.

the part from the preview clip almost sounds like they were going for a "save you" style breakdown, but it sounds unnaturally spliced in.

Still love the "la da da das." Also, I like how Ed winds down the final word of the song. As compared to, say, how MYM ends with a scream.

That’s what I said last night. It just takes one look at FB to see all the folks who couldn’t stand DOTC loving this one, probably because it has a solo.

Too bad they couldn't have explored the "she was a stunner, and I was stunned" vocals a bit more. That's the vocal highlight of the song.

And, of course, the snippet. I may just make a one minute loop of that eventually.

yes, thank you. I was trying to place that weird break down that keeps happening in the song and that's the best analogy.
