Have to admit, in my first listen, I thought it was

She was a stunner
And I was stunned
There was no first thought
Second thought was
“Could be the one”

And I liked that better.

Is Ed getting paid by the word? If so, eggs for all. Love the guitar solo.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

There's some room ambiance, a natural warmth, and a sense off separation & space there that makes a world of difference.

It doesn't sound like a sterilized, space vacuum with all of the life compressed out of the guitars like the last couple have
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I'm not mad about it. Those aren't the reasons the song sucks.

I agree, the guitars does sound good finally. Not thin or crispy but the tone is actually good and there is space. Imagine Getaway or even Swallow Whole recorded like this one.

I think it’s a solid 3 from me. I didn’t expect another DOTC, which I think is a 5, and given the title, the song isn’t what I expected, but I’m enjoying it. I still don’t really think it has a direct comparable to another PJ song, at least off the top of my head.

The lyrics are hit and miss with me, but there are some definite high points. I think the highlight of both new songs has been the final few minutes of them. It’s nice to eliminate the fade out.

My take is this song into DOTC is cool. It is something unexpected which I like. It is would fit to me on Vitalogy more than it would fit on lightning bolt. I like it. I don't know how much I will seek it out. Might be go into steady rotation of running songs. I think it would have been a 4 star song if it started when Ed sings "she was a stunner" and was just a 2 min romp. All in all I like it better than Save You, World Wide Suicide, Got Some and Like it much better than can't deny me. It does feel like it will be a mess live.
