Yes, but what does that have to do with whether the song is good or not? It doesn't.

I'd agree if the song went somewhere.. showed any creativity... evoked emotion... They just keep repeating this boring progression though and it's hard to overlook.

The chord progression in this song seems to be the focal point of the song.. not a device to express emotion or get anywhere.. it's like hey look at this progression... and it's so lame

I don’t really put much stock into everyone’s opinions anymore, and they’re certainly not going to affect whether I like the song or not. I think the song is great and this only makes me more excited for the album and tour.

Back in Black is a pretty simple tune. Think that has done OK, ammirite?

Yeah the progression is simple but they're pretty creative with the rhythm and diddlee doos. It rocks and you can feel it. Not that I'm a fan of AC/DC in the slightest, I get that it rocks.

It’s very Avacado-y in the Punky Power chord structure, it’s got a bit more crunch to it, it’s far from the abomination that was Can’t Deny Me, but yeah, this strikes me as that sort of Big Wave type song that’s relatively inoffensive, but completely forgettable.

Feels like there are some good ideas in there but it just runs out of steam, the ‘solo’ sounds to me like they had a deadline and were like ‘Mike, throw some fretboard wankery on this’ so we can put it out. 100% guarantee that if this lands any later than about the number 4-5 slot in a live show it’ll be brutally murdered by Ed.

I kind of feel like I’ve gone in on this song, when on first listen I thought it was alright, I wasn’t moved to blind rage like some seem to be that it’s not DOTC 2.0, but that’s probably symptomatic of the way I feel about Pearl Jam nowadays, which is pretty much complete indifference. Maybe that’s as damning as thinking it’s garbage.

Back in Black is an immortal song. It makes its simplicity work for it and it is executed perfectly. Simplicity alone isn't a detriment.

never would I have thought that a potential-spritzer would cause so much commotion here

I listened to this again as I got midway through the mayhem of this thread

and I kind of like it more than my initial 6.5/10 rating. I might even say 6.85/10.

I don't know if that's because I know it makes so many people unhappy - and so when Ed is doing his thing, and you know he doesn't gaf what others think - it makes me respect it more

but this is fine. and kind of good. I guess my expectations were so low, based on the snippet, this has totally outperformed. it's not their greatest song by any means. but it's way better than LB. It never transitions to a Calypso bridge (which is a positive). Mike McCready is challenged to perform.

And one part of it sounds like one of the songs from Dumb and Dumber

Im also just now paying attention to the rest of the band during the solo. That is really nice

I also like (or find interesting) that at a few moments in this song they primary feature becomes a bit more muted (the guitar solo recedes into the mix, rather than pushes forward. Eddie's vocals during the superblood wolfmoon and a few other parts)

I think the 3 votes on this aren't comparing it to the rest of the 3's in PJ's catalogue. It could also be riding the DotC wave. This one ain't a 3.

More than this song being a mangled mess and below what PJ is capable of, I was just really hoping these kinds of songs were in Ed's past.
