Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
"Dance Of The Clairvoyants"
Confusion is to commotion
What love is to our devotion
Imperceptibly big, big as the ocean
And equally hard to control
So save your predictions and burn your assumptions
Love is friction, ripe for comfort
Endless equations and tugging persuasions
Doors open up to interpretation
Expecting perfection leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present and the future's no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
The looser things get, the tighter you become
The looser things get, the tighter
Not one man can be greater than the sum
It's not a negative thought, or positive
Positive, positive
Falling down, not staying down
Coulda held me up, rather than tear me down
Drown in the river
Expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure
When the past is the present and the future's no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
Numbers keep falling off the calendar's floor
We're stuck in our boxes, window's open no more
Collecting up the forget-me-nots, not recalling what they're for
I'm in love with clairvoyants 'cause they're out of this world
I know the girls wanna dance
Away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and fire things
I know the girls wanna dance
Clairvoyants in a trance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and fire things
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes

Some solid lyrics there. A few weird lines as well. The good parts are good, even if the may be a bit floating, instead of direct.

I would say it's "rather than* tear me down", though he says it annoyingly quickly

I changed it, but I’m not positive either way.Ms Harmless wrote:I would say it's "rather than* tear me down", though he says it annoyingly quickly

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
I'm still going to write a thing about the lyrics at some point, my thoughts are coming together
my only issue right now is that I can't make head nor tail of all the abstractions in verse 1; but maybe that's part of the point ("confusion is...")

could be one of the stronger tunes in their repertoire when it’s all said and done. it’s that good

I agree. It’s got some real staying power. Tremendous song. I’ve got it a 5/5.pjfanman wrote:could be one of the stronger tunes in their repertoire when it’s all said and done. it’s that good

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
i know i keep harping on this, but the comparison for this band right now is the Stones with Voodoo Lounge. the first single off of that was Love Is Strong, a fine but forgettable song, basically their paint-by-Stones Lightning Bolt.
PJ somehow pulls DOTC out of their ass. a truly superb track that indicates new life after almost 30 years. in short,

I brought your point up to the L'il Lady the other day, and we were talking about the fact that the members of Pearl Jam are essentially, by & large, roughly around the same age as the members of The Rolling Stones were when we saw them at Giant's Stadium in 2006.evenslow wrote:i know i keep harping on this, but the comparison for this band right now is the Stones with Voodoo Lounge. the first single off of that was Love Is Strong, a fine but forgettable song, basically their paint-by-Stones Lightning Bolt.

That was a bit of a reflective moment for us.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
Put things in perspective for us in terms of feeling nothing but a sense of gratitude and appreciation for this upcoming album/tour cycle. Debate & discussion here is great because, let's face it, there're not too many folks out there, at my age, in my day to day life, that are speaking about any band with this level of depth and knowledge. It's why I'm also grateful to have this place.evenslow wrote:chilling.
I may not be around here as much as I should be when things are evenslow-ing down (sorry
Lost too many great people this past year to not fully appreciate the band while they are, for as long as they might be, from here on in.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
two years ago I was out to dinner with some colleagues and Brown Sugar came on the restuaraunt speakers, followed by Man on the Moon. I did some quick math and realized that we are now further today from Man on the Moon than Brown Sugar (which felt ancient at the time) was from Man on the Moon at the time of its released.
That ruined dinner.
