I'm not sure what you mean. Like, you have to crank it to 10? That wouldn't seem right. I used to have a Marantz but sold it for a streamlined setup. Simple is all I can understand.bune wrote:speaking of receivers: I notice that I have to turn it up a fair amount to get volume out of it, is that part of the process or no?

lol, fairly sure it is.
I just feel like I have to turn it up to ~55 to get what feels like a good sound from the speakers and even then there's a lack of punch. I'm going to try with some headphones and see if it's still quiet.

Is it a new phenomenon or has it always been an issue? Is it a vintage or modern receiver?

Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
I would say it's new if only because it's the first time I've tried playing a record through it. I think what it might be is that I'm way more used to using it for movies and television and not music. like, I don't have a CD player attached to it and we don't listen to the radio. so maybe it just seems like a lot because I haven't used it for this purpose before.
I'm going to just assume it's lack of use on my part.

Does your input have the pre amp for phonograph built in?
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Brothers of a Feather arrived. Very clean pressing and loving it. Not sure how my neighbours feel about it. Before The Freeze should arrive next week.

Where did you order BOAF from? Also, where the hell did you score before the freeze for a reasonable price?surfndestroy wrote:Brothers of a Feather arrived. Very clean pressing and loving it. Not sure how my neighbours feel about it. Before The Freeze should arrive next week.

BOAF on amazon.ca for $35 CDN. Same for Before The Freeze for $34 CDN. Have been on watchlist for a long time for Before The Freeze. Ran across BOAF by accident. BOAF is still on amazon.ca but for $50 CDN.

Definitely possible. Bune you may just need to get an external pre-amp linked between your turntable and receivercutuphalfdead wrote:Yeah this was my thought.surfndestroy wrote:Does your input have the pre amp for phonograph built in?

the instructions are literally "connect the RCA cables to the phono input". it does talk about the cartridge though...I need to see what kind of cartridge is on the player I guess.
it's a moving magnet cartridge so it's good. I guess.

yep. well, not a vinyl factory, but one of the only two factories in the world that produces the lacquer used to make vinyl masters. so, it's going to put a strain on the entire global vinyl production chain.Anders wrote:Heard a large vinyl factory burned down in the US.

If the input is labeled "phono" then it should be amplified. When you described it here I assumed you were plugging it into an aux input.bune wrote:https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avr990
