does he sing ‘I redeemed you’ instead of ‘I can see her’ after the ‘love notwithstanding we are each of us fucked’ section?

Coming back to this song after a day or two off I can confirm my opinion that it is a solid 3-stars from me.

While this garage-y style might not be many people's favourite version of modern PJ, this is definitely the best they've done with it. A lot of criticism from the last two albums was that they needed to loosen up and have actual fun rather than whatever fun sounds like after it's been rehearsed and BoB'd to within an inch of its life. That is what this song is - a loose, fun, crunchy rock song that doesn't take itself too seriously. A bit of an odd choice for second single and the coveted song-2 spot on the album, but then again DotC was an odd choice for a first single so it's good to see the band stepping away from the ingrained patterns of the last 3 album release campaigns. Overall I think I'm most excited by the mixing/production of the two songs we've heard so far

I still think SBWM is about a mentally/developmentally-challenged guy (or perhaps just an incel?) obsessing over and then approaching a woman in the street and being rebuked/punched. The lyrics are quite schizophrenic - he alternates between hissy-fit and self-pity, and the tenses are all screwed up. I must say it's nice to have a PJ song that warrants such close dissection/interpretation of lyrics for a change.

Final thought for now, I had a good laugh looking through some of the comments I saw on Facebook about this song the other day, things along the lines of:

"This is better than that electronic crap"
"This could fit on Vs"
"This is about Chris Cornell"

That last one made me LOL and then I saw that some of you bozos suggested the same thing in this thread - you cannot be serious?!!

i do think there is too much self awareness for the incel/mental issues interpretation. And this would not be a playful song if the violence was literal

This one has been a grower which I did not expect at all. It didn't help that my first listen was on iphone speakers early in the morning after the release as I was getting ready for work. I loved the snippet that was released beforehand and the Riot Act vibe it had to it. So, I was disappointed when the rest of the song sounded like the generic Backspacery rockers they've been pumping out the last few albums.

However, I have now listened to this multiple times loudly in the car and on my Bose speakers and I must say this one sounds good. My favorite part is still the snippet, but now digesting the lyrics, the video, and all the little left turns here and there have increased my overall enjoyment of it. This flows well into DoTC, so I'm hoping the rest of the album has this kind of diversity of sound, depth, and great production.

My only qualm now is with the bland Undone type opening. I think they should have added in some wolf-howling, a Vincent Price voice clip, or anything else really. At least the song ends strongly with no fadeout.

no offense, but being the first album since the great chris cornell passed, wouldnt you assume people are going to look for references to him all over this album? as opposed to creating some weird plot line in your head and labeling it as "dissection/interpretation of lyrics"?

I haven't done it yet myself. 3.5 would feel better. But I may get there before long. Knowing the lyrics now and being able to both listen or just have it playing in my head start to finish whenever I'm doing whatever is only making it better.

Some of my favourite PJ songs are songs I didn't immediately like much. When they eventually clicked, they have had more lasting power than some of the songs I liked immediately. I think this applies to both DoTC and SBWM for me; I like both more after several listens than I did initially. DoTC is the superior song but SBWM is a damn good one too.

KidC-' ranking of the Gigation songs over at the Rank the albums thread has me excited because the middle of the album seems like it consists of songs that are growers and probably have more depth that could be hard to appreciate fully at first listen.

Listening to this super slowed down on YouTube (.25X), I hear a “-ger” sound which I have to imagine is “danger.” I believe he flips the “Throughout the hopelessness / focus on your focusness” the second time around - rather than “turn around for hopelessness.”
