Mickey Mouse

Did anyone else grow up not liking Mickey Mouse and just not seeing what the appeal of him was? That's how I felt. He was always portrayed as the most beloved character who brought joy to eveyone. What? Why?

See, here is the thing: Donald Duck is funny. Bad things happen to him and he overreacts and it's great. Bugs Bunny is a smart alec and plays pranks and outsmarts everyone. Goofy is comically misguided. Tom is always trying to kill Jerry, which rules. Daffy Duck is hilarious because he is an unrepentant asshole. Popeye saves the day, sometimes in a creative way, after being defeated in the first round. Elmer Fudd is comically awkward.

Of all the cartoon characters of my childhood, Mickey Mouse is the most one-dimensional, the least entertaining, and the most unfunny. All he had was that stupid voice.

Who agrees with me?!

Whatever. I'm talking specifically about Mickey Mouse. Most of the other characters have an angle that makes them at least somewhat entertaining. Mickey Mouse is just a milquetoast happy-go-lucky fuckhead

I never liked him as a kid either. However I will say that my wife loved him when she was little, and it was specifically because he always happy and positive. Her childhood was extremely dark and negative, and Mickey was something that showed it didn’t have to only be that way. So yeah he does nothing for me and Disney is evil and all that but I’m glad he existed for her.

My daughter watches the latest Mickey Mouse show on Disney+ and I can confirm that Mickey is still totally uninteresting. I've never actually thought of him as a cartoon character; he's always just been a brand to me.

The new Mickey shorts that started in 2013 are really great and have given me a whole new appreciation for Mickey and the gang.

All those characters have some sort of mental disability, usually a speech impediment of some sort. It's pretty fucked up.

Donald and Mickey have a thousand comic book stories told in Scandinavia, that had never been released in the US. It’s a shame.

I used to love the stories where he travelled the world, or stories set centuries in the past. Those were excellent. Of course I was ten.
