Yeah, I’ve used Reverb tons. So long as you’re scrupulously honest with your description of any issues, it’s fine.

I’ve never sold an amp online though (only guitars, pedals and parts), seems fraught with risk unless the buyer is willing to pick up.

Yeah shipping a tube amp would be risky. At this point I'm mainly just looking to recoup my maintenance costs so the price will be right.

I bought a tube amp (mesa dual rec) from ebay about 10 years ago and it was ok i guess. The seller did a lackluster packing job using a bunch of soft foam in a re-used box. A couple of tubes were broken when it arrived. Not a deal breaker but it kind of forced me into a retube that i didn't want to do right away. I also should have seen this as a red flag and had it looked at professionally right away but i was naive. I ended up having to get some repairs done several years later that i suspect were either caused during shipping or were in place at the time of sale. Basically my tech told me that it looked like the amp had been dropped and i know damn well that i didn't drop it. So yeah, make sure to take a LOT of pics inside and out and pack it WELL.

I've since bought a couple of amps direct from retailer and all were packed properly and arrived without issue.

Its also 800 lbs so fuck that.

This is a 2×12, tube powered cabinet. It's heavy but not crazy heavy. I had it retubed by a tech but there is still intermittent noise that comes through every 20 mins or so. Its probably an easy troubleshooting thing for someone with the know how who wants to take the time but I'm not going to keep paying a tech hourly to "maybe" isolate the problem after another few hundred gets spent. I'm just going to cut my losses. I'll probably be lucky to break even.

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully I can get someone locally interested and just meet up rather than ship.

I did get my Ibanez JEM cleaned up but haven't had the chance to play it much because the amp is offline. I'll invest in a smaller practice amp after I finally get through this saga and hopefully have some fun playing again.

Just shipped a completely empty Dr. Z 1x12 combo cab and it was $90 and a few hours picking it. Be patient and sell local or find a s musician swap meet.

I'm done selling gear. I regret dumping about 85% of the shit I sold off. It's not exactly a logical position to take, but falling in love with a piece of wood isn't either.


Been trying to convince myself to get a 20w mini head. Most of the time, the 60w is too much. Most can switch down to 5w, some even 1w. The Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage has my eye, but good christ, $1300? The Marshall ORI20H is way affordable. Guess I'd have to try them to see. The Peavey classic is on the radar too.

ive been with my Twin Reverb II for nearly 20 years. I can't imagine playing through another amp or even selling this thing. But its just too fucking heavy. its too fucking loud. It has to be at a high enough volume to really hit the sweet spot no matter how many boost pedals or breakers i try.

But it sounds so fucking good clean.

Anyone have any suggestions on something similar at a more manageable 20 watt? I wouldnt sell this twin reverb....cause like you.....i regret selling the stuff I have.

I was looking at a 20w Orange. Seemed like a pretty cool practice amp. Simple. None of the mod stuff.

yea ive always been eyeballing that and it makes most sense for me to move into that direction.

But, can a 35 Watt amp produce the same incredible sound that a 100 Watt fender an produce? Is there more to it than overall volume (i know there is more to it)

Like, Will i get the same tone out of a 35 watt amp that i get out of a cranked 100 watt?

Small amps are great for getting some awesome distortion at a low volume, and are often used in recording studios for this very reason.

Unless you’re A) a touring musician trying to accommodate a number of rooms, or B) actively in a loud band that is practicing regularly and you need to hear yourself over the loud drummer, then I think there’s very little need for a large amp.

There's a few mods on my amp that make it quite usable for small spaces. There is an addition of a couple extra master volume knobs so i can dial in a pretty good tone and cut back the master volume. Its nice but ultimately never the same as fully letting it rip at a strong volume.

If you're looking at a 35w or 20w there seem to be a ton of solid state models that can fit the bill. The only reason I bought a 100w amp in the first place was because I assumed if you wanted to have a tube amp, you needed to be able to crank it to get the benefits.
