Yeah I have been coming back for the live albums recently. In the last month I listened to Massey Hall, Cellar Door, Live Rust and now I am in the midst of Weld.

The Crazy Horse version of "Crime in the City" is probably my favorite re-imagining of any song in Neil's catalogue.

Its a fantastic version and it actually complements the version on freedom. They are different enough where i can listen to both and love the differences as if they are two different songs.

Weld is incredible. Absolutely my favorite version of Neil and The Horse.

Has anyone been able to find a copy of the Colorado Movie? I know he showed it on the hearse theater but....missed that.

I almost bought Weld on CD maybe a hundred times over the last 20+ years, staring at the two independent jewel cases shrink wrapped together, but then passing for one reason or another every time, thinking it was probably awesome but this time I am getting ______.

Then late last year I grabbed everything NY finally off Spotify so I could just hear it all, and powered through all the studio albums (well documented here). Now I am sort of fooling around listening to the live albums. I just decided a couple of days ago, after decades of staring at this thing to listen. I shouldn’t have waited. I should have just tossed that weird two jewel cases wrapped together on the counter and started then and there. 20+ years later, and I have finally heard what is one of the best live albums I can recall hearing, and probably my instant favorite series of moments on a guitar. Crazy.

CRAZY HORSE BARN TOUR

We have been looking at booking the Crazy Horse BARN tour. Many of the old places we used to play are gone now, replaced by new coliseums we have to book year in advance and we don’t want to go to anyway. That’s not the way we like to play. It sounds way to much like a real job if you have to book it and wait a year, so we have decided to play the old arenas – not the new sports facilities put up by corporations for their sports teams. Largely soulless, these new buildings cost a fortune to play in. We wanted to play in a couple of months because we feel like it. To us it’s not a regular job. We don’t like the new rules.

So we asked for the old arenas where we used to play, and we learned [that a huge amount of them are demolished, but many are also still standing]

Among those on their list of arenas still standing: MSG, Forum, Nassau Coliseum, Long Beach Arena, Cow Palace, Chicago Arena, Nashsville Municpal Auditorium, and more.

Was listening to Road Rocks Vol. 1 on the commute today. That Cowgirl in the Sand, Words, and Motorcycle Mama were pure fire. He’s so good.

On the way home, revisiting Re-ac-tor. It’s such a bizarre album. I mean a 9 minute song about steak and mashed potatoes...that being said I do like this album even more than the last time. Despite the heavy guitars it feels so light and carefree.
