As far as notes. I drafted something right after the listening party that I sent to my close PJ friends. But what I’m sharing is all based on initial feelings of songs and less about specific details. I’ve been clear about that. I can tell you what was a rocker and what was a ballad etc. Couldn’t tell you any lyrics except for buuucklleee uuuuuuup.

[quote="verb_to_trust"]So the record is going to suck. That sucks.[/
I thought it was great on first listen. But everyone is gonna have a different opinion. Do you like the 2 singles?

Yeah. I’m a huge fan and had super high hopes for this album. So I was really focused. I’ve said this before but maybe others haven’t read it. I was with a casual PJ fan who hadn’t paid much attention to them since binaural. She couldn’t name one post binaural song. She said that this was the best she’s heard from the band since and was excited to hear it again. Her highlights were Who ever said, DotC, retrograde and River cross.Strat wrote:ha! no worries. Appreciate your insights, KidC-, we really do.
The issue is that most folks on here are fans of Binaural and Riot Act more than the last 3 records and as you said, we don't expect the band to produce anything like the first 3 albums which are almost universally loved, perhaps not even another No Code or Yield (those are also big favourites here). Hence, when people see you suggesting that this record is more in line with the last 3 than Binaural or Riot Act AND also giving nearly half the album poor or mediocre ratings, they aren't sure what to make of it.
Do you love the songs you do because they are well executed versions of the same styles on the last 3 albums? Did you not like the songs you didn't because they are failed attempts at similar styles or because they tried something completely different or perhaps similar to Binaural/Riot Act? I guess the answers to these questions would probably make things clearer expectations-wise but hey, you had just one listen and no matter how memorable, I think we will just have to wait for the album to drop to figure all that out and make up our own minds.
Sidenote: Like you, I actually prefer the last 3 albums to Binaural and Riot Act.

Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Fuck Who ever said over and over again cause it’s so good

would you consider letting someone else watch while you fuck Who Ever Said?
and consider a marry swap with Retrograde? Maybe for a DOTC? Just for a night

Hmmm. Again. I can’t go into specifics. This was just initial reaction. But I think the reason my lows were so low was because of the high I felt from the first 4 tracks. I wanted that again but the album goes in a different direction which for me will require more listens. I guess that’s good for an album on a whole. And I remember thinking it felt like an album. Cohesive. Especially how it wrapped up.Release_Me wrote:Appreciate your insights, KidC-, we really do.

The 6 songs that scored really high from me weren’t necessarily because they sounded like recent stuff. They just had the elements of PJ that I love and hope for with new music from them. Love emotional powerful songs, soaring vocals and driving rockers.
I stated before that I’m positive my scores will go higher. Can’t Deny Me was a 1 for me on first listen. It’s now a 3. I would never tell anyone to seek it out but I enjoy it when it’s on now. Ole was a 1 and...stayed there...
I will say never destination felt very by the numbers. That did feel like a song they had done before (recently) and this time it felt stale. Again. Initial reaction. Will probably change.
I’ve been very happy sharing my thoughts on the album and can’t wait to hear yours. #soon

I just want to say that since PJ did that stupid Augmented reality thing - there's been no moon in our night sky. The stars are out in full force, but the moon has been absent ever since. Fuck you PJ!

it’s gonna take a lot to out-spritz SBWM, but i know they have it in themMs Harmless wrote:sounds like Never Destination will be our spritzy punker
they lied to me and fooled me at first by masking SBWM’s spritziness but now i am on to them and will make sure that if i go to bed with them and consent to musical insertion they better be ready for more than just a fleeting bubbly lark and then never call me again

It was in the sky the morning that they released the Augmented reality, but it's been gone since. Granted we've had a few cloudy nights, but on the clear nights it's nowhere to be found

Any chance of a moratorium on the word “spritzy”? It’s fucking horrendous.
