That's subjectivity, dude. Both big rock anthems, with a rise and fall, 'like a wave'. They're both written by the book 'Epic Rock Songs 101'. Whether you like one more than the other (and I do, GTF) is sort of irrelevant. It's mostly the production of GTF that makes it sound so much cooler than the U2 song. If it was produced by late BO'B, it might not.LikeLukin wrote:I don't get that comparison at all.harmless wrote:Of course it isn't, because you like it. I agree.stip wrote:I say this all the time but the verses of amongst the waves are so good and don't get the love and attention and respect they deserve.
Hey look, guys, I'm not saying all this to try and bash old PJ songs that I love. But to say that maybe, just maybe, some of us are just bored with these types of songs, and PJ are still trotting them out. Those of us who still like them, and still like them coming from PJ, don't mind that they sound a bit like old ones. They always did.

they're so wet and shimmery, like a spring mist. Perfect for reflection and reminiscence.Mike wrote:stip wrote:I say this all the time but the verses of amongst the waves are so good and don't get the love and attention and respect they deserve.I love Stone's guitar sound and the rythm. Everything is so warm.

I really enjoy Pride, and I really, really love the studio version of GTF, but they aren't very similar at all. Both songs have low-intensity vocals in the verses that then grow and explode in the chorus but that's it.

I don't think 'that's it' at all, certainly not rhythmically. But that's why music is subjective.LikeLukin wrote:harmless wrote:That's subjectivity, dude. my wife (who is neither a fan nor a hater of pj) says ATW is a beautiful song she can't listen to because the guitars sound too high and their sound is unpleasant.VinylGuy wrote:i hate how the guitars sound on ATW. its my only complaint...live, is a really good song, but the studio version sound thin and weak.

I love that Amongst The Waves isn't dominated by guitars. Everything is so smooth. Well, until the solo starts.

I never once since the day the single was released, ever heard even a shadow of U2 in Given to fly. On any level. And I'm a U2 fan. Big anthem, yes. There's a billion big anthems.
Force of nature is blatantly U2. Give to fly? No.

the outro of FoN is the most U2 moment in the catalog.
