Really the only song that even comes close since that era is Given To Fly.
You could also argue 'Faithfull' or 'In Hiding', in my opinion. At the time, Yield felt to me like an attempt at more anthems.

I'm not saying Just Breathe made an impact similar to songs like Alive in their time but nowadays it's just as popular as those songs. Just look at the most watched Pearl Jam Videos on youtube. Place 4 and 5 is both Just Breathe with 10 million views.

Edit: Oh, that was with youtube blocking some songs because I'm from germany. :gomez: It's still at place 9.

Which kind of lends to the idea that Alive's greatness isn't proven by its longevity. Anything PJ writes now is surrounded by its cultural context, and that's a context in which this song has been written hundreds of times since then.

I think PJ's hits from 10 aged really badly. I think that the idea that those songs are considered cool exists exclusively within the band's fan base. They aged badly especially relative to the commercial success the album had at the time.

I could listen to the first two verses in that song forever.

Well, not forever. But a while. They're great.

I think the music is generally considered dated but classic, in the same way that the best albums from Metallica are seen that way. Loved by a lot of people (not me, mind) but definitely a product of their time. I think a general audience is still able to love 'Ten' because it's simply, and somewhat superficially, kickass.

Mike interview on CFOX tomorrow with lots of good bits, allegedly. I assume we get Sirens as the single this week/maybe tomorrow and some info on the record from Mike and co.

What'd I miss (for legitimate news) since last night, team?

Why does everyone think they're releasing Sirens?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

stip wrote:i like skipping a LOT more than future days. It's a really nice song and Eddie sounds great on it--especially that bittersweet vocalizations at the end when he realizes that this isn't going to last forever and his little girl is going to grow up.

that song caught some shit when it was released but it's really quite good.
Just re-listened to it and I still think it's pretty bad :| . But I think I'd like it a lot more had they made different choices with the arrangement and recording. Those backing vocals are really ugly, the guitar sound is clunky and grating. I think this song would be so much better with a slower tempo and a quieter performance.

Saw the Mike vid, watching the better version now, DMB I still find boring, I liked his earlier stuff, but just can't get into him and can't see myself getting to one of his shows, maybe if he played my bathroom and I happened to be in there already taking a dump.

Was the interview he did a week or more ago but they were told they couldn't air it just yet due to the things Mike said, that were before/during tracklist release and such, so there's obviously some decent info in the interview, Mike's the only one who really gives us anything anyway.

People rumoured it before that 'PJ Guy' or whatever his name was predicted it was 'coming VERY soon', and he's been right about other stuff, so the theory is he's an insider, or knows one.

But I reckon we'll be surprised by the single, as always.

Someone on the Pit said they had a 'direct line' with someone in the know, and Sirens is apparently the second single. Take it with a grain of salt, but it sounds plausible.

I certainly think a second single is 99% probable. The gap between MYM and the album release is too long. Plus it's pretty standard to have about 2 or 3 songs out there as singles (or 'promo singles') before the album drops.
