I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I tried watching the movie he made before Mandy (Beyond the Black Rainbow) when it first came out and bailed after 15 minutes. The absolute worst kind of empty, nostalgic “stylization.” Unbearable. Mandy looks like more of the same.

I'm shocked that it's the same guy who made Tombstone.
Mandy was a series of disjointed scenes that thematically held little glue to make the movie work as a whole. too many parts that make you question the world of the movie because they don't go into the world enough. it's presented as a mental break but also that they're on another world at the same time. there's magic but then it turns out it's not really magic, maybe?
well fuck, you're right. when I did a google search on him a few weeks ago Tombstone came up in his filmography. I guess second unit video assist operator for Tombstone is enough to qualify for a result of the "what movies has panos cosmatos directed" search.
Is the penultimate shot sequence of Color out of Space something they pulled from the story itself? Cause if it is, what an excellent adaptation, and if it's not, what a great fucking idea.
I thought it was alright. Kinda felt like they could have done without the lame horror tropes and just got straight to the crazy shit. I didn't know whether to take it seriously or laugh at the nick cage-iness of it all. I couldn't have it both ways.
