We’re back to analyzing this from the one article we got. I have no idea what to expect, because SBWM was not what I expected it to sound like after reading the listening party reviews.

I still hold SBWM at a 3. It’s not a groundbreaking song but I’m still enjoying it. A DOTC it is not, but thats fine.

these songs get to hold my attention and make their arguments right off the bat more than the last two albums, just thanks to stellar production, solid instrumentation (with little extraneous fluff on top) and an Ed who sounds like he's worked a little on his annoying vocal ticks

I want to hear "River Cross" because if we don't get any "lwost and deestant naaa-haaaaow" stuff THEN we're talking; the live version sounded good and fairly free of that

He's getting there. Not that he's totally comparable to Robert Plant, but it did take Plant quite a while to commit to staying within lower registers, and he sounds awesome there - oddly held his own even with Alison Krauss.

For post 2006 Ed, I find that he sounds great in his middle register especially in lower tempo songs (e.g. Better Days) but when he goes low (Lightning Bolt) he sounds nasally, and he also gets into problems in higher registers when the tempo picks up.

After Gigaton I think they should put out a record with a Hard Sun vibe all the way through.

Fair enough. But I don't hear the nasally sound in Off He Goes, which is in the same register as the verses of (the song) Lightning Bolt.

I hear you, "strongest wind" is a little nasal but in general it's better

another issue with both Backspacer and Lightning Bolt is that Ed seems to have had all the bass in his voice taken out, and all the mid and treble whacked up high; it just sounds bad; both of these songs sound better in that area, but especially DOTC, where his voice sounds nice and "full" in a way I can only compare to Riot Act

My only fear is...even though I like the song, I only really want one like this on the album. So, when first reading the listening party review, I had high hopes for the propulsive start to the album into DOTC. Now - I am a little less excited having heard Wolf and knowing it is similar in style to Who Ever Said - of which I've had high hopes. A one-two punch of Wolf style songs isn't what I hoped for.

Anyway. New music. All good.

Funny that I didn’t even think contextually about what descriptions we had in the article or otherwise. I listened to it clean without expectations. Same with DotC. In both instances I was quite happy with what I heard.

Smart move. I think the opening two songs were described as energetic and propulsive. Which of course, drove a vision in my head that probably is impossible to match

I guess wolf is energetic at the least. But I do hope Who Ever Said fits the description a little better to my tastes.

I really do like Superblood Wolfmoon. But I don't love it.

These songs are 20 to 26 years old. I know, we're getting old. But seriously, you can wish all you want, but I'm afraid that will only lead you to disappointment.
There's 2 Pearl Jams for me, before & after 2005. And I have stopped comparing them, even in "ranking" songs. And I have stopped hoping they recreate anything like those songs. It's just not going to happen.
