Man Of The Hour was his last great ballad IMO. But I don't hate any of them as much as I hate FD.

It was, but if we are just counting the songs Ed writes the only other ballads since then (prior to LB) were the end and just breathe. Man of the hour was a great song, but those other two are both good

Those two songs are not cheesy. They're just kind of meh. Like Thumbing My Way. I don't find them repulsive, but I could care less if I ever heard them again.

Live shows are only fair game if the Ten Club isn't selling the boot. So the ones for sale on the site as official recordings are not fair game. Since the Wrigley boot hasn't even gone on sale yet, I can only assume they want it down because it is from the soundboard and will be for sale at some point.

Just reading enimmi's review again, and it's more apparent that he enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first, which is interesting. Also, on FD, I don't know why I've not noticed before but it begins with just the guitar and Ed. It ends with the piano, and that's accompanied by other instruments, and then fades out. So all in all, it may not be that bad, with the piano just on the end. I was horrified by the bookends approach.

I tried a cover of this tune.... here it is:

I understand the dislike of this song, to an extent, but I don't really think it's a bad song at all. Might be the stage I'm in, but I kinda dig songs like this, just breathe and the end. Also, on the version we've all heard... To be frank, I think it was just a bad take.

You'll never come close to the greatness of "Chris from Germany" though

I'm just glad Ed sings this one in a register suited to his current voice.

It's funny how this fact's gone unnoticed. When he stretches his voice, he gets complaints. When he sings within his range (and also plays within that range), it's boring. I just don't think he can win everyone around with this kind of song.

Complaints about this song being boring have little, if anything, to do with register.

I think it's still worth noting.

Yeah, I have no complaints at all about him writing to his strengths. I'd gift him a twenty and a handie if he'd quit with the warbly vowel compiling, though.
