Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
They’re really slow rolling this thing out. Reviews this week, I’m guessing publicity/interviews next week, then its release week.

do you think the AV Club will be sad that this didn't come out today?

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
Would love to have a gauge based on previous album reviews and how they were received here vs actual response to albums here. In the immediate and aftermath
For your own money which outlet has nailed how you feel about the last say three records.
To go back further is unfair and wouldn’t work
We can all get excited or bummed or excited about reviews but let’s look back.

I don’t care for reviews. In fact the desperation to read them here is a bit strange. I get it. We do the same before a new Star War. (I don’t personally)
But the guy writing does this for a living. In whatever outlet. How much do you trust him not to be tired and cynical and dead to music? Or not?

Pretty sure it's been brought up before, but it seems like a slam dunk that they could/should do some kind of Monkeywrench-esque streaming show. I can't imagine it'd be that difficult to throw together.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
What do we have so far?
Publication : Pearl Jam-Backspacer-LB-Gigaton
Rolling Stone : 4stars-4stars-3.5stars-4stars
Spin : 70-80-60-80
Consequence of Sound : ?-B-60-B+
The AV Club : 83-75-83-75
So 3/4 rank Gigaton as significantly higher than Lightning Bolt. 3/4 also rank it right in line with Backspacer. At least 2/4 have it equal to or better than Avocado.
I'm not really sure you can draw anything from these early reviews other than its more or less in line with the last 3 albums and likely better than Lightning Bolt.

You also have to take into consideration whether its the same person reviewing each album.

I think we are just eager to get whatever insight into this album that we can at this point. I don't read to many music reviews after i have the album. Oddly i do read more movie reviews...dimejinky99 wrote:tragabigzanda wrote:well the obvious answer is which outlets hated lightning bolt, but graded S/T appropriately?

Getting all the guys anywhere that isn't an arena filled with people giving them money is probably a lot harder than you think.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I don't read reviews for "opinions" or overall judgments as much as descriptions, to pick up the general energy of the album; a review might slate something they've made sound enjoyable to me, or vice versa; I think it's fine to say don't depend on reviews, but to say they have no purpose beyond telling you what to think is a bit naive; after all, multiple reviews is multiple feelings and perspectives, especially for a band to whom nobody realistically feels they owe anything anymore

I hear you.
But it’s masturbatory.
How long were we excited or posting anywhere at all about LB backspacer etc etc
After release?
I think we kinda cocoon with a new one to get to know it. And only come out if we won’t like it

who cares how long we read reviews after release? there's no point reading reviews after we've heard it

I stopped reading here. Not because I'm a dick. Because the rest of the review could only temper the optimism this sentence provokes. Its form factor recalls both 1996’s No Code and 1998’s Yield, two wildly underrated records
