Would love to have a gauge based on previous album reviews and how they were received here vs actual response to albums here. In the immediate and aftermath

For your own money which outlet has nailed how you feel about the last say three records.

To go back further is unfair and wouldn’t work

We can all get excited or bummed or excited about reviews but let’s look back.

Can't speak to professional reviews around the time, but the initial Backspacer takes around here were beyond exuberant.

I don't remember which, but one of the recent Gigaton reviews made mention of the fact that they could prove how mediocre an album LB was by how bored the band looked every time they played those songs live.

well the obvious answer is which outlets hated lightning bolt, but graded S/T appropriately?

I don’t care for reviews. In fact the desperation to read them here is a bit strange. I get it. We do the same before a new Star War. (I don’t personally)
But the guy writing does this for a living. In whatever outlet. How much do you trust him not to be tired and cynical and dead to music? Or not?

I don't read reviews for "opinions" or overall judgments as much as descriptions, to pick up the general energy of the album; a review might slate something they've made sound enjoyable to me, or vice versa; I think it's fine to say don't depend on reviews, but to say they have no purpose beyond telling you what to think is a bit naive; after all, multiple reviews is multiple feelings and perspectives, especially for a band to whom nobody realistically feels they owe anything anymore
