I saw a tweet yesterday of a gun store in LA and the line stretched around the block.

There's been a lot of comparisons about where we're at vs. Italy a number of weeks ago, but I'd be curious how we compare in terms of the measures government is taking in terms of mandating closures/quarantine/etc. Granted, we have little uniform federal guidance, but I'd be curious if we're getting the message quicker than they did.

IL too. It seems pretty clear now that there have been plans in place for a few days to ramp up everything in stages to avoid full panic. Now no groups of 50 or more for eight weeks after schools and restaurants closing. Most of us will be self quarantining by week’s end.

Not being funny but the US is in far worse shape than Italy was at this point. I’ll find you the link but it’s grim reading. Closing down flights from Europe months after the fact hasn’t helped but let Donald be Donald I guess.

My 84-year-old mom who has COPD lives with us. We've been keeping her inside, doing her shopping for her, and of course lots of hand washing and limited contact. Really doesn't help when assholes who are completely clear to work from home (and do so quite often for the lamest reasons), feel the need to show up in the office when they're clearly feverish and coughing nonstop. Just unbelievable. So I reminded my boss of the situation with my mom and asked if he'd kindly ask sick people to stay the fuck home.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

That's just... it's too late and my mind's only full of expletives right now. How can someone justify being around others while being sick? They need to work that badly?
That's heart-wrenching to hear
I want to tell you to run far away from your work place to protect your mom. Obviously I don't know your situation.

Why is any non essential work even a priority right now? The pointless shit most of us do will still be there when this calms down. Just push the pause button on capitalism.

Two Emergency Room Doctors Are in Critical Condition With Coronavirus [in the U.S.]
Two emergency medicine doctors, in New Jersey and Washington State, are in critical condition as a result of coronavirus, reinforcing concerns that the nation’s front-line medical workers are becoming especially vulnerable to the virus, the American College of Emergency Physicians said.

“A lot of us think that despite everything we do, we will probably be exposed,” said Dr. William Jaquis, the chair of the group. Still, he said, “The first reported case certainly sends a shock wave through the community.”

One of the ill physicians, a man in his 40s, is a doctor at EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland, Wash., a hospital near Seattle which has seen one of the largest concentrations of cases in the United States.
Dr. Jaquis said it appeared that the doctor had access to adequate protective equipment. “This was an area with an outbreak, so they were expecting and prepared. That obviously makes us more nervous.”

The other physician, a doctor in his 70s in Paterson, N.J., was also in isolation in intensive care. The doctor led his institution’s emergency preparedness and was admitted to the hospital several days ago with upper respiratory problems, the physicians’ group said.

Trump personally trying to buy the rights to a vaccine in development in Germany.

Little wonder he said there’d be a vaccine soon.

Timing perfect for his campaign too.

They told him to fuck off.

This tweet is not exactly what is being reported elsewhere, facts not rumors my evenbro.

I really didn't expect this to happen on this level in the United States, in part because it hadn't before. I now know that was just me being naïve.

After refusing to cancel recess to vote on the coronavirus bill, Senate Republicans are now postponing a vote until late in the week. They need time for discussions because some of them...want to vote against it.
