I was expecting Buckle Up to sound kind like Parachutes. Now is compared to Strangest Tribe. Love both songs and propably will be disappointed.

Better to just adjust expectation to a low level, maybe it will sound like Thin Air.... But hey thats a good song too

His enthusiasm is great. But, I will be absolutely shocked if this comes close to something as interesting as Parachutes or Strangest Tribe.

nah. at best, p4k gives the album about a 5, which is what they've done with the last two.

Seems like Ed was pretty prolific this time around, writing Who Ever Said, SBWM, Never Destination, Comes Then Goes and River Cross.

Ed wrote 5 out of the 12 songs.

DOTC was a full band effort and Seven O Clock I'm not sure who gets the credit there, only that it originated from a jam session.

Imagine being Stone Gossard, one of the best songwriters in the world, and you get 1-2 songs on each album, every 5 or so years, and that includes a couple of the weaker songs on the past two records. Amazing.

He WAS one of the best songwriters in the world, until 1995.

Uhhh...he wrote Do The Evolution ? In Hiding? Hail Hail?

While those songs are good, I don't think they are all that impressively written. In Hiding is good because of Eddie's vocals, Hail Hail is mostly good because of Jack Irons, and DTE is overall good but the songwriting is really not that impressive.

I do really like Thin Air but none of these songs compare to Daughter or Even Flow.

I feel like we're at least getting reviews from longtime fans who are as prepared as many of us are to be let down. They maybe be overrating it a bit (or a lot), but I'm getting a sense that most of them have been genuinely surprised by how solid it is, having gone in expecting much less.

i always think about that when i read reviews for albums i'm anticipating. My conclusion is that i'd rather hear the ringing endorsement of a super fan (acknowledging that particularly after only a few spins that view may be improperly reflective of the simple joy of listening to new music from one of your favorite fans) than a staff writer at rollingstone, or pitchfork who has no particular affinity for PJ, or worse, someone who really likes music i don't.

I'm going to take it with a grain of salt. The memories of people saying Backspacer was their best since Yield are still too vivid in my mind.

In Hiding is quite fantastically written for a guitar piece.

"In Hiding" is a beautiful composition. I think it is one of PJ's most satisfying and well-written songs from an instrumental perspective
