Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
it's not bad, but these teasers could be just a bit longer imo.

yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. Another "chord" rock song. But its only 10 seconds so whatever
Two such songs, back-to-back, at the start of the album does not bode well, especially when I already disliked SBWM.
I'm confident the album will at least sound much better than the last few, and I still have hope for a handful of songs, but I'll admit my expectations of having an enjoyable front-to-back album have completely flatlined since finding out Ed wrote so much of it.
Porch, RVM, Small Town, not for you, corduroy, better man, whipping, off he goes, habit, wishlist, breakerfall, grievance, insignificance....
There's always hope Spenno!

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
there's some grungy minor chord stuff going on, there's some atonal feedback in the background
I like it more than the SBWM clip we got; I think this clip will be a breakdown again, like that was; there will probably be heavier parts

His rockers seem cut from the same cloth these days.
I think you could make a kind of horrifying megamix out of Undone, WWS, Green Disease, GSMF, Getaway, Lightning Bolt, SBWM. It's all that same pounding 4/4 rhythm with Ed grunting and bellowing over a bunch of chords banged out on every beat, he's drawing from a very limited sonic palette.
Even when Jeff or Stone or Matt's songs aren't great, they're never that unimaginative.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
why do these reviewers keep mentioning "riffs" when they're jangly open chord jobs?

See, I'm pretty heavily into pretty much all of the songs you listed.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
If he doesn't overdo it on trying to sing things he can't sing anymore, this sounds like the type of new song that would be great live. The lead guitar part is really promising, sonically. PJ needs that vibe, and it hasn't been on the last couple of records.
