Inside Job has some fantastic melodies, intricate guitar finger picking, and I think the lyrics are awesome. Seeing it played live was amazing.
Versus SBWM, please.

Ed's songs should be one colour on a good Pearl Jam album, not the defining feature.Strat wrote:You're not wrong, but i quite like all those songs sans getawayBirds in Hell wrote:That was a long time ago, Strat.Strat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. Two such songs, back-to-back, at the start of the album does not bode well, especially when I already disliked SBWM.
I'm confident the album will at least sound much better than the last few, and I still have hope for a handful of songs, but I'll admit my expectations of having an enjoyable front-to-back album have completely flatlined since finding out Ed wrote so much of it.
Porch, RVM, Small Town, not for you, corduroy, better man, whipping, off he goes, habit, wishlist, breakerfall, grievance, insignificance....
There's always hope Spenno!
His rockers seem cut from the same cloth these days.
I think you could make a kind of horrifying megamix out of Undone, WWS, Green Disease, GSMF, Getaway, Lightning Bolt, SBWM. It's all that same pounding 4/4 rhythm with Ed grunting and bellowing over a bunch of chords banged out on every beat, he's drawing from a very limited sonic palette.
Even when Jeff or Stone or Matt's songs aren't great, they're never that unimaginative.
Two, maybe three, Vedder songs on each record is plenty. Six or more is just crowding out the band's better songwriters.
You can't tell me it doesn't grate on the guys that Ed somehow finds space for all his meatloaf rockers but can't get inspired to write lyrics for the ideas they're bringing in.
"Ed & Pearl Jam" indeed.

what's wrong with that line? what's wrong with the message of "how I choose to feel, is how I am" especially with how the cadence fits the melody perfectly in that song

100%. Ed has written some gems in the past but his more recent compositions are far less interesting, and he’s the weakest songwriter (musically not lyrically) in the band. I would love an album where the ratio of songs written by the other members to Eddie is reversed. Or even better all songs written by stone, Jeff, and Matt.Birds in Hell wrote:Ed's songs should be one colour on a good Pearl Jam album, not the defining feature.Strat wrote:You're not wrong, but i quite like all those songs sans getawayBirds in Hell wrote:That was a long time ago, Strat.Strat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. With that said, this album sounds amazing so far and I’m super excited for it.

I don't like it, that's what's wrong with it - you're allowed to feel differentlyVindicator wrote:yeah but focus on your focus ness is super coolMs Harmless wrote:I quoted it ironically, that line is terribleVindicator wrote:don't you dare quote inside job! you said DOTC AND SBWM were better!!Ms Harmless wrote:I don't think we should fight about all this, we're all entitled to our opinions

"focus on your focusness" (if that's what the lyrics are) is not supposed to be 100% sincere, Inside Job is

Has tree picked on the "amateur" chord progression and how he'd be able write something far superior yet?

Well that’s pretending we know the inner workings of the band. By all accounts this was a full band effort through and through. There is a chance, a small chance, that the band is actually super excited about the sounds Ed picked.Birds in Hell wrote:Ed's songs should be one colour on a good Pearl Jam album, not the defining feature.Strat wrote:You're not wrong, but i quite like all those songs sans getawayBirds in Hell wrote:That was a long time ago, Strat.Strat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser. Negative sir. We will still get your package to you. They have stopped receiving all non essential items into the fulfillment centers. If the album is already in the building it will be shipped. I actually have not gone out looking for it but probably should.Huell wrote:Amazon are stopping non-essential items being shipped now too... too much pressure on their infrastructure.
Looks like the vinyl will be delayed at this rate too.

I guess the problem with this is a heck of a lot of assuming. How do we even know the other guys are bringing in more songs? We don't know the inner workings of the band.Birds in Hell wrote:Ed's songs should be one colour on a good Pearl Jam album, not the defining feature.Strat wrote:You're not wrong, but i quite like all those songs sans getawayBirds in Hell wrote:That was a long time ago, Strat.Strat wrote:yea but ed has also wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:Great, another Vedder-penned, rhythmically-static thud rocker in the vein of Getaway, WWS, etc.Strat wrote:Dont love that teaser.
