I don't mean to just bash mindlessly, but I'm having my reservations remembering the butchering of the Infallible's otherwise OK instrumental foundation.
unfortunately, that instrumental foundation never leaves the earth. flat, lifeless, BOB'd. doesn't matter how ed sang it.
That's why I said it was merely OK

anyone else looking forward to a snippet of Alright? granted, I'd rather hear an entire song, but we get what we get for now.

these things are really hard to resist given the gap between albums, and how good DoTC is.

exactly how I feel. and I do think there's at least four great songs on this. much like you, I'll take a third of it being great, and grow into the rest. I've a good feeling half this thing will be great.

I think this may happen and that's good enough for me. Hell, if Quick Escape turns out to be the juggernaut that clip aspires to be, that might be enough. I already really like DOTC and SBWM.

I am extremely excited to hear tonight's first ballad, because I need to hear how Josh Evans has treated a ballad

Pearl Jam have written some of the most beautiful soft songs of my life, mainly in the first 7 albums; there's no excuse for what BoB did with "Future Days" when we had "Thumbing My Way" and "All or None" on the same damn record, both of which can reduce me to tears

I've had "River Cross" in my head since the live version; if that, "Alright" and "Retrograde" are as good as they should be, I'm sold

I will never forget during my initial listen of LB when Future Days came on I actually burst out laughing about 20 seconds into it, and I dont think I have given it a full listen since.

I don't mind Future Days that much, at least initially, but it kind of just drags and on. Fuck Bo'B for having the last few notes on the album.

i think we might have that

- DOTC regardless if you think it is 80s synthwave for beginners, is canon now
- River Cross is holy ground and I will personally fistfight any person that dares insult it (meet me where Aaron Burr smoked Hamilton)
- Quick Escape sounds like When the Levee Breaks and that's just fine with me (thank you Jeff Ament and Josh Evans)

Ed's surfrocker prideful cumming tracks don't matter anymore

we got three

can't bitch about it

playing with house money now
I can easily picture Quick Escape heading strait for the gutter once we hear Ed's vocal contribution
Ed’s vocals have been a highlight of the two songs we have heard so far.
and the band for 30 years

Absolutely. In general I think Ed sounds really good on Lightning Bolt as well. The issues people tend to have with him these days I think stem from live performances that get projected back into the studio

I've said it on here before and I'll say it again - for a man in his mid-fifties who has been screaming his heart out for more than 30 years, he sounds terrific. He absolutely can not hit the highest notes anymore, but goddamn it he still sounds fantastic. :heartbeat:

I remember watching the live performance, they debuted that one with LB and both of them were really meh, but i hated FD so much. It was an eddie song and band was so fucking bored on stage. And i thought Ed premiered the song because he felt it was really good, same thought he had when he put it as a closer.

Then the studio version was worst. The piano is awful, the acoustic guitat is awful, those strings...Ed´s rendition is the only good thing there.

I don’t hate that one, but it shows how few ideas the band had for that record.

I think they leave every choice to Brendan. And he listened to the song, and thought it could be a hit.
