Rival is an excellent song. There are days it is my favorite on BinauralHomeboyd wrote:This is so much better than Rival for me...but maybe I missed the Rival train lolreconstruction_ seeds wrote:stip wrote:Not that good, but it's quite good. Rival good.
Seriously? I like Rival, a 4 for me but from the clip i figured quick escape would go above it.

That lead in to the final solo starting at about 3:20 has me wanting to lose my shit by the time Mike and Jeff take over. I don't think I've purely loved a Pearl Jam song like this since Life Wasted. Just fucking magic.

Re: Quick Escape
Rival is a 5 star song for me. They're such different songs though. But I could see Quick Escape eventually being a 5 star song, just too hard to say right away. I will say it's a very good candidate.Leatherhead wrote:You must have. I probably need 100 more listens before I can rate this against Rival.Homeboyd wrote:This is so much better than Rival for me...but maybe I missed the Rival train lolreconstruction_ seeds wrote:stip wrote:Not that good, but it's quite good. Re: Quick Escape
I love those albums. Parting Ways might be an exception here. Maybe I’d amend to say post riot act. But it’d still be up there. This song is awesome.Thejambi wrote:Did you forget about Binaural and Riot Act?Rob wrote:In my opinion, after many listens, their best song since the 90s. It's gonna sound HUGE live!

Re: Quick Escape
The first guitar solo sounds like something from a NIN song I can't specifically place.

This is prime PJ. It's not derivative of their classic sound, but references back to it substantially and just explodes it with awesome playing. It's the older version of the band telling their younger selves, "this is how the big dogs do it when they're seasoned players like us."

Re: Quick Escape
Gotcha. More about keeping our expectations of the album in check. True, my expectations would have been through the roof had they released Quick Escape as the second single. But that’s on us, not them. You generally release the best songs as singles to give the album the best chance of success. I’d also argue that Quick Escape is actually a better representation of this album than SBWF.evenslow wrote:he's saying the truth which is we are a giant bunch of maniacs and if our first two examples of the new pearl jam record were DOTC and Quick Escape we would have thought it was the second coming of Vitalogy or some shit. Better that it was a more middle of the road PJ song for second single so we could keep expectations in check and thus actually enjoy the actual album.Fattie_Vedder wrote:Why do you say that? It’s so much better than SBWF and would have piqued interest in what the rest of the album holds.Strat wrote:It would have been a very bad idea to release this as a single. It would have ruined everyoens expectations and or interest in the rest of the record.evenslow wrote:seriously, in what world was this not the obvious choice for second single??jam80 wrote:Awesome. Should have been the second single.

The very end of the outro reminds me of the song "The Real Thing" by Faith No More.
