I hear that, and I think it's because this studio version is just a tad too fast; but eh, it gives it kind of a rough-take charminjuddstree wrote:That's a lot of songs since Avocado.arthurdent wrote:Love the music and lyrics, but it feels like Ed is tripping over his tongue here. He's trying too hard to fit all the words in there.

Re: River Cross
best closer since "All or None"
it's not too long, I could get lost in it for even longer; it's very meditative

Re: River Cross
this version is sooooooo much better than eddie's solo version. despite some of the vocal deliveries (e.g., "can be tamed" at 2:17 and "here and now" at 3:39), i think that they did a really good job with this song.

I'm liking the album version more than the demo/Eddie solo.

that's what I think, but I guess we'll find out soon enough when we see the liner notes.BDB wrote:whats that ticking sound at the start - is it the pump organ?

Man, the first verse really seems like it wants to be more sensitively sung than Eddie is singing it. I almost wish he used his deep voice for it like the beginning of All or None

this was a joke, but I actually do genuinely like how Matt's tom's could come right off an 80s pop hit like thatMs Harmless wrote:the lion sleeps tonight

Is that the bass that darts in and out? Or is it another instrument?

Re: River Cross
I want to like this so much but I..just...don't. I love the Ed solo/pump organ version. The lyrics (sans the "government profiting" stuff which is just out of place) are great. I'm OK with embellishing it some but the plucky bass and drum rolls just don't work for me. Was hoping we'd get some tasteful Mike solos and Stone on the resonator ala "Thumbing My Way". Maybe it will grow on me but I prefer Retrograde as the closing song.

Re: River Cross
I think this song is really good... a great closer. I only listened to the ed version a couple times and that was months ago, so that had no influence on opinion. This is one of my top 5 on the album.
