It's fine. Definitely feels the most connected to Lightning Bolt and Backspacer. I like the vocal hook and outro a lot though.

How I currently feel about the album, and the order I think I'd prefer it tracked.

1. Who Ever Said - Good enough opener. 2.89.
2. Quick Escape - Great rock song. Highlight. Should have been THE single. 4.
3. Seven O'Clock - Good change of pace album track, highlight. The outro could use improvement. 3.2.
4. Alright - Good transition, album track. 2.95.
5. Buckle Up - Second best song on the album. Would love it if not for Matt's inappropriate Speed of Sound busy drumming. 3.5.
6. Take the Long Way - I don't like hearing Ed sing like this, but it's good enough I guess. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be in the beginning. This is a better version of this song they've done many times. 2.8.
7. Comes Then Goes - I agree with Strat. Could use a slide guitar or something. Decent enough end of album/wind down track. 3.2.
8. River Cross - Good enough closer. 3.

2. Superblood Wolfmoon - PRETEND NEVER EXISTED. 1.4.
3. Dance of the Clairvoyants - DELETE. 2.3 until the end, which is cool. Doesn't save the song though.
11. Retrograde - DELETE. Don't want to listen again to rate.
7. Never Destination - Mostly irritating. Could like this with a different singer. Delete. 1.8.

2.686666666666667 whole album as is
3.1925 after deletes

It's 80s solo Townshend with some added oomph. (this means it's good)

My two rupees:

Who ever said? - 3/5
SBWM - 3.5/5
DOTC - 4/5
Quick Escape - 5/5
Alright - 5/5
Seven O Clock - 4/5
Never Destination - 2.5/5
Take the long way - 5/5 (best PJ rocker in decades - yes I said it)
Buckle Up - 4/5
Comes then Goes - 3/5
Retrograde - 2.5/5
River Cross - 3/5

Overall - 3.5

Best since at least S/T if not RA.

The start is okay, the ending is okay; but the middle run from DOTC ---> Buckle Up is amazing, with the only kinda dud being Never Destination.

But the highs on this record rival anything they have ever done - and I can see QE, Alright, and Buckle Up becoming "canon" and legendary, viewed in same way we view old classics today.

Who Ever Said is the song most in my head right now while not listening for whatever that’s worth.

So far I am much more generous:

Who Ever Said 4.0
Superblood Wolfmoon 4.0
Dance of the Clairvoyants 5.0
Quick Escape 5.0
Alright 5.0
Seven O’Clock 4.0
Never Destination 4.0
Take the Long Way 5.0
Buckle Up 4.0
Comes Then Goes 5.0
Retrograde 3.0
River Cross 5.0

4.41 avg

How about a post-new album release single? I'd like a song to sandwich in between Retrograde and River Cross.

Maybe it's because I'm working while listening to this in the background but Alright and Seven O'Clock really stood out in the cold morning light.

After about 3 or 4 listens:

Isnt Never Destination insanely like the song Lightning Bolt?

I dont really mind but it highlights how the production is more digestible on the new album
