Hard to form any views about the mix with such a poor quality rip.

Really nice chorus... This song will be a riser for many on this board. A lot to like.

Another grower on 3rd listen. Cool Matt tune, wonder what parts he plays on the guitar for this one

Does this song have the best guitar solo?

I know the have done a few Soundgarden-ish songs in the past that may have went sideways for some, but they nail this one perfectly, imo. Ed’s tone/range are great, top notch production along with a killer chorus + some nice twists and turns.

Re: Take the Long Way
This song is great. The outro elevates it, and it was already great to that point.

I think this song suffers the most from it.Birds in Hell wrote:Hard to form any views about the mix with such a poor quality rip.

I think you overestimate how much difference the leak quality makes. Sure, the real thing will sound a little bit better but it won't magically make the guitars sound fuller. Even a 128kbps mp3 gives you a pretty full picture of the production of an album.

Re: Take the Long Way
Try and listen to Vs. or Vitalogy in 128kpbs, they will still sound great and the guitars won't sound think.

Re: Take the Long Way
It's not a matter of the bitrate here, though.
If this was ripped in 128kbps directly from a lossless source, it would sound better (though not ideal).
The problem is that it sounds transcoded, i.e. ripped from a CD to MP3, burned to a CD-R and then ripped again to MP3.
In doing so, it sounds much worse than a straight MP3 conversion would as the double-encoding introduces lots of phasey sonic weirdness. There's a noticeable lack of clarity compared to even a regular MP3.
Compare the singles here to the official audio on Spotify (on high quality) or YouTube (on HQ audio), it's a pretty big difference.

It's going to be like this forever, isn't it?stip wrote:Definitely the song I like the least.
This, "Buckle Up," and "Dance" are the big three for me on this album.

Really like the song though this isn't the kind of song that I would usually say I love. The newness has me leaning 5 stars but it will probably settle at 4-4.5 stars. Love the outro.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Re: Take the Long Way
I like the outro and the solo - I think one of my issues right now is I don't think it fits in well with the rest of the album as an album, and I'm still in album mode rather than just listening to songs. When I play this on shuffle it works better for me.

Re: Take the Long Way
the "what's yours is mine" section / outro is so Soundgarden, I love it
