This one's easy: superblood wolfmoon by a huge margin. Followed closely by retrograde.

Surprised by the hate Retrograde is getting. That was one of the standouts on first listen.

All in all it's a solid album - even the weaker tracks contain some interesting instrumentation, structure or production. The only one with very few redeeming qualities for me is Never Destination, which sounds like it was written and recorded in about 5 minutes flat.

I wonder whether they felt the album skewed too heavily to slower/moodier tracks so they felt obliged to wedge in another rocker.

Either way, it's a bit lazy, though not awful enough that I'll skip it.

Never Destination is such a busy song, I can't imagine it as lazy. Familiar, maybe - but a lot of that, honestly, is because of the influences it is cribbing from, rather than being self-referential to the catalog.

Take the long way or Never Destination.

As usual, the punk/garage songs placed in the middle/last part of their records are the worst.

Retrograde is NOT one of the worst songs of this album, not by a long shot.

"Superblood Wolfmoon" is just an utterly inept song in a dozen different ways. It's not only the worst song on Gigaton by some distance but one of the worst things they've ever done.

I'm not good at breaking down what goes on in a song but maybe you can help me understand this song better. if i compare this to sonething like green day's when i come around, for example, they're both fun tunes (though i dont like when i come around) with vocals that could be either loved or hated but sbwm doesn't sound limited to the same riff throughout the song and has a guitar solo which perfectly fits the energetic pace of the song. Would you hate sbwm if the vocals were done by one of your favorite singers? The song is wordy but but for someone who doesn't mind the style it has plenty of hooks in the lyrics and there's enough guitar highlights in it to keep my focus. I get it though, if the guitars were busier in when i come around i would still despise the song because i hate the vocals.

If nothing else, sbwm adds variety to the album in a fun/Hitchiker kind of way?
