I’m going to wait until I get the official release, before I go into full ranking mode. So far I feel like Gigaton is better than Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, but probably competing closely with S/T. As an album the production sounds better, but song for song is different.

that very well could be. I think 7 Oclock may be too high, but maybe not. I need the full lyrics to really start to settle in on that one, retrograde, and never destination. And new album glow may be elevating some songs. And lack of familiarity may be holding some back. I can replay every second of every song in my head from S/T, Backspacer, and L-bolt. The only two songs on Gigaton I can do that for right now are the two singles.


Alright and Buckle Up are the big surprises. The quirkier songs are usually underrepresented in my rankings (parachutes and rival are the major exceptions), and the songs where Ed doesn't write lyrics usually get slammed. But those songs just work.
