I really like Backspacer. It sounds like the band really enjoyed making it. All of the songs sound like the guys were having a lot of fun.

I’m shocked to be rating a PJ album this high so late in the game. Recency bias is very possibly a factor. It does feel after 10 spins like it’s falling into place. The production is excellent and production has sunk many of PJ’s late career albums. The sound is cohesive. There is a flow from song to song and section to section. It feels of a whole. There’s a top drawer song for the first time since Yield (21 years). There is a lot to like and some to really, really like.
