"Take the Long Way" is one of the best things they've written in a long time. It's a good example of the kind of fast rock song they should be writing. It actually plays to their strengths.

I also didn't get the "act your age" dig. Take the Long Way is a very nuanced, thoughtfully-written song.

When hearing new music from them, I ask myself "would I be listening to this shit if it wasn't from Pearl Jam?" Over the last 15 years, the answer has been an emphatic "lol fuck no", but I think this one mostly passes the test, even though I don't listen to this type of thing as much anymore.

I’ll say it again. You don’t seem to be understanding. It doesn’t matter who wrote them.
They’re both great examples of Pearl Jam’s seemingly Neverending mid life crisis.

And the fact anyone here likes them just goes to show they probably are too.
