I went ahead and pre-ordered... but I kinda doubt I'll be seeing my copy on Friday.

Looking forward to this album has been more important that I ever thought it would be.

I wish I hadn’t read that they recorded this separately...

I doubt they recorded everything separately, sounds like some combination of band members would lay down some basic ideas and then everyone would tinker at leisure in their home studios until a song came together.

If anything, it seems vaguely comparable to the old days when I presume they had more time to sit around for weeks/months on end trying out various ideas, which they probably don't have the flexibility to do so much now with families and other commitments (hence Brendan's "bang out a record in two weeks" approach).

That space to explore ideas without a clear end goal or strict timeframe seems to have been very beneficial, it actually feels like more of a collaborative band effort than the last few records.

I'm very happy that they've found a method to record remotely (if they have to) that also allows for ideas to percolate and be fully developed

Yeah, whatever they did this time, it worked much better than what they’ve been doing for the last couple albums.

The band didn't provide Evans with guidelines , but from the outset it was clear that Gigaton would be unlike any other Pearl Jam album on the writing front. “They wanted to compose differently than usual. They no longer wanted to get together in the hall, turn on the amps, play and record, even if some piece born like this is there, for example Who Ever Saidthat basically they are the ones playing together in the same room even if then Mike has put strange atmospheres experimenting with the E-Bow. Maybe two members of the group came to the studio and recorded a draft song. The next day, two more came and radically rearranged what had been done the day before. And on the third day someone else came and took his own. The important thing was to have an open mind and not be afraid of messing up writing and recording. The rule was: no rule. "

Defiitely. I guess his experience scoring film over the past few years came in handy.

He did really awesome on this record. While i dont love retrograde, his playing is fantastic. He provided us with many beautiful colors and textures, a super out of his wheelhouse interjecting guitar line in dance, and some classic out of his mind ripping guitar solos.

There are elements where he tries to add those elements on Lighting Bolt (song and album) and they get flattened out by the albums production.

I'll concede that there's a little new album sheen to all this, but the production, the lyrics, and the overall compositions are really hitting me as much as anything I've heard by the band.
