Re: Anybody want a Corona?
And America, or any globalized western liberal democracy, really isn't built to be shut down. As in it probably can't be done. If a soft lockdown is ineffectual, and we are incapable of taking the truly draconian measures necessary, then what is the alternative?

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
This is to say nothing of Trump's motivations. I'm sure they are strictly selfish reasons. I don't care much about motivations though (edit: compared to results anyway. I'd be lying if I said I don't care about motivations.)

Agree, the collusion narrative was nonsense.McParadigm wrote:The president is on tv telling America that this is going to be over soon, the virus is equatable to the flu, and we will be opening up for business “very very soon,” so of course Burt is flippant while Bi_3 whatabouts with nonsense.

The answer was flippant bullshit, because the honest answer is obvious.Self wrote:I already asked. The answer was North Korea?bart wrote:What systems are built to be shut down?

Turkey pepperoni is better than regular-ass pepperoni.
It's meatier, tastier, and far less greasy

I'm still unclear about what power Trump has here? Seems like one of the few times the states have the power. As far as I can tell, he doesn't have a lot of official power. But then again, executive orders can do almost anything these days.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I mean, we can all agree that keeping people locked down would slow the proliferation of the virus? A bit of his power comes from downplaying the seriousness, touting unproven treatments, saying we should go back to normal, when normal doesn't exist. A good amount of people are eating that shit up. I honestly don't understand Trump dragging his feet on using the powers he has with the DPA to get ventilators to places that can run out in weeks. I mean, even more than I usually don't understand him. Sure, it's against Republican orthodoxy, but I thought he was supposed to be the Republican that didn't care about that.

It'll all turn out ok once Trump ends up getting most of his voter base killed

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
The only things that seemed to have shown that they can work (disregarding the measures a country like China has at their disposal) are intense social distancing and testing, isolation on positive cases and tracking. We can make the argument that the U.S. isn't going to do that, but I'm just not really understanding how things will be back to "normal" in an extremely virulent disease that has disastrous implications for some portions of the population and is no picnic for many others.Self wrote:I mean, we can all agree that keeping people locked down would slow the proliferation of the virus?
