Gutt seems way more strightforward.

I dont think its the same with AIC. Jerry wrote always most of the stuff, and this side of the band is way more heavy than the previous one..the three albums they made with William are very different beasts and fuck i love them.
Agreed. I add AIC to that rare AC/DC category where replacing the singer actually works fine. The Layne years will be forever essential to me, but I fully enjoy the second coming. This is not the case with STP, both Chester and Gutt were just ok in STP.

yeah, Weiland was perfect for those guys, neither Chester or Gutt seem more than fine. Maybe Chester could have done better work if he stay longer in the band, considering he was out before he killed himself.

I just discovered the STP Legacy YouTube channel. I guess it's official? Anyway, it's got a lot of cool stuff and I found these surround versions of Core and Purple. Pretty interesting listen.

saw this elsewhere and figured I'd share it. I remember the DVDA of Core sounded terrible so I hope this is a better mix.

AIC works mostly because of Jerry. He's the real lead now

yeah, i remember about that documentary and the coffee table book. I think the doc is done, but they havent put it out. Not sure about the book and that double album...

The Shangri La sessions remain a mystery to me...I love Shangri La so much, but it took me a really long time to appreciate. Im sure the sessions must have been really hard.

It's a good album that would have been better if someone like Josh Evans produced it. Good songs stifled by claustrophobic production.

It's pretty brickwalled. Didn't BOB produce this one?

Shangri La is a beautiful album. No4 is a brickwalled mofo.

That was cool as hell. Too bad MTV didn't have them do a second Unplugged show years later like they did with R.E.M., for example.

Im listening to the Unplugged right now.

In other news the band will play Core on July 31 on a livestream concert. Could be fun.

Somehow it took me til 2020 to learn that they borrowed the riff from Interstate Love Song from Jim Croce. Kinda makes me like it more.
