I think my current favorite part on the whole album is from 3:58 to about 4:30 on this song.

it's awesome

I get that there are three different songs jumbled together in this song, but I think they're all strengthened by being part of the same weird whole

Same. the lighter/poppier elements of the song (including the chorus) hold it back a bit for me. I love the rest

Does anybody else here fucking love this part of this song as much as I do?

Anybody?

That one filthy bass note during the "sideways talk..." part really revs my engine.

Listening on headphones now, there's a wonkiness to it which leads to me think it might have been played on guitar (there are certainly plenty of synth-inspired pedals that could do it) but I don't see how it's better or worse either way.
I love that part so much...i also think its a guitar.

I'm thinking guitar because of the way the very last note sustains like an electric with some sort of effect on it.

The lead guitar in 12:51 by the Strokes comes to mind as a comparison.

What does Ed say at about the 23 second mark?

"gave up on satisfaction" makes me wince a little
Ed's delivery on Satisfaction really annoys me. It's hooky and gets stuck in my head but not in a good way (think Cranberries Zombie).

There's a song or delivery somewhere in the catalogue that that Satisfaction line is reminding me of but I can't put my finger on it.

it reminds me of "can't get no satisfaction" and I don't like that song

"Zombie" is amazing though

After initially not being super into this one - the reviews had me thinking it would be different - I can safely now say this is one of my favorites on the record. It's Pearl Jam being their most Pearl Jammy since Life Wasted and it actually works. Gonna be a good one live.

Needs an editor. The song literally ends and starts up again. Get rid of the wanky noodling and this is a 5 star song. Great chorus.

Anyone hear the simularities with Let It Ride in Ed’s vocal delivery after the 2:30 mark?

Nah, that's what makes it interesting. If you edit out all the little idiosyncrasies it would end up being a pretty boilerplate modern Pearl Jam rocker with a few stands of their older zest mixed in. The false ending, the tonal shifts; they elevate the overall song.

Home is where the broken heart is
Home is where every scar is

Blinking stars, beneath you roam
Room to tomb and cradle to grave
All the answers will be found
In the mistakes that we have made
Fuck me this is good.
