Didn't Ed do that for Uke songs?

You'd have to ask Ed.

Although it feels like this thing could leak any minute, I could also see them keeping a lid on it almost all the way up to release date. Pretty impressive considering, according to Mike last night, they did a lot of the production and track sequencing via trading emails back and forth and on multiple, burned CD-Rs.

Juvenal wrote:What was the initial board response to Backspacer? I've forgotten...
positive, but not overly so. Overall people liked it, but the initial response to S/T was more positive, especially in terms of its intensity.

The fact that The Fixer was not especially popular out the gate probably had something to do with this. The End, Got Some, and Unthought Known were the initial favorites.

iirc
My intial response was positive but felt the lack of Mikes presence brought the album down a little...ST was way different for me...I had only heard WWS, so i took the day off from work , went to Best Buy as soon as they opened and drove around for about 2 hours playing the sn0t out of it....I was blown away from the start..

Maybe thats what they're listening to in the Joseph Arthur Vine.

He was the founder of Mega Upload that the feds busted for various (alleged) illegal internet crimes and schit. I just thought the fact that you actually found a legitimate leak of an album through one of those torrent links that look so shady reminded me of him.

agreed :).
And I actually like that Arcade Fire song, so it's about time I start listening to them again. I am also all for a PJ disco album. And a cover album, a heavy metal one, and something really experimental.
Back to the possible singles: Future days and Lightning Bolt take turns in my head, so they definately have hit potential. And if Sirens becomes a single, and if it gets airplay, I would guess it would be their first number 1 hit since long. Because it is good.

groetjes,
Mirella :) (maybe Dennis can add some of his opinion once he's back home)
I wouldn't know about number one songs, I don't even think in those terms anymore. For me that's just some radio marketing thing. Having said that, I have no idea what kind of an impact Sirens will make. When I heard it I was really pleased by how it started but then it took some unexpected turn and I had to adjust my expectations of it somewhat. I'm really curious about hearing it again to see which will way it will fall for me. I did not dislike it, it was just difficult getting a feel for it right away. By the way, I just looked at my notes again and because I had them with me in my backpack and have been cycling through the pouring rain today, some of it has become wet and illegible. Doh!

I promised before I would write something about the Q and A afterwards. Mirella already mentioned something about the recording sessions and that B said there was low drama because they were all grown ups now, compared to the early records they did. What has changed now is that they trust each other. There was no specific agenda going in to make this record. B said that Ed listens more now and has the same stance and input singing, whether it's just some demo or small piece of music they are recording or a full song. He also said they recorded the vocal overdubs in a different studio. At least, I think he was talking about the vocals, because he was talking about Ed (and that was also when I mentioned the smoking ;)). My notes also say drum tracks above it but I cannot exactly remember what was said about them. Someone else asked about Boom and B made it very clear he was the live guy and apparently had no dealings with recording the album. That's all the info I can recall for now. It was clear B had no problem with answering as many questions as possible but the presenter was nagging him that he had to finish up for doing the one on ones. Afterwards when we were talking and drinking and B came back, I tried to get him to come over and talk some more with us, but alas the group he was with was leaving and it was clear he had no choice whether to stay or not, which was too bad, because I could clearly tell he was more eager to talk with fans than with some record company people. One other thing, I realised afterwards I could have easily made a recording of everything. We had to hand in our smartphones but I had a bag with me in my hand and no one checked that. Useless information, I know, but I just wanted to mention this and there was not that much of a strict policy. Although someone else mentioned afterwards they might be able to tell later on from what session it was recorded. Oh well.
