I think that’s why the response to S/T was so positive, because there were several real rock songs on it. An ideal Pearl Jam has a mix between hard rock songs, midtempo songs, and a few slower songs.

But does it sound like Ten/Vs era? No.

Really? It could be from that period easily i reckon.
I can’t hear it being from any other time.
But it’s great if you can.

It’s now I guess. That’s what’s important.
Yes, sounds nearly 0% like Ten/Vs to me, 90% like S/T period. Would have been a top 4-5 song on that album.
I have NO Idea what you guys are talking about. This song sounds most like Alone or Breath, which is a sound that Self/Titled sounded nothing like...Self/Titled sounded like a bunch of songs in the vein of the Who or something they had lost that Dave-A esque groove which is here on this track
Breath? Ed sounds completely different, than he did then. Even the music isn’t similar at all.
Of course Ed sounds different 30 years later. I don’t think anyone means this sounds literally the same as any Ten/Vs song but I find way more similarities in musical style and melodic choices with This song and some of those ten/vs outtakes than anything on S/T. This song slots in quite well next to Breath and Alone in particular.

sorry, thought we were talking bout Take the Long Way. Quick Escape would be in the top 5 somewhere

FACT: Quick Escape is the best Pearl Jam song since 1998. And that song was DTE.

I wanted you all to be aware.

Both Alone and Breath are basically mid-tempo songs, and Quick Escape has a lot more meat on it. Big Wave is a better comparison.

DTE is good, but not the best song since 98.

I think you are either thinking Quick Escape is a much faster song than it is or Big Wave is a lot slower than it is. Everyone hears their own thing but I think Big Wave is the worst comparison yet.

It’s all good. I think people get too wrapped up with how much one thing sound like another thing anyways.

I still think this slightly-faster live version of Alone is what reminds me most of Quick Escape. With the chorus harmonies similar to Breath's chorus

I'm kinda getting a Yield vibe from this song, but really the only album this sounds like it could have come from is fuckin' Gigaton.

Basically, this sounds like Pearl Jam from the Ten/Vs era musically while vocally it reminds me of Riot Act-era Ed.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Some of the song reminds me of Mother Love Bone. Mostly the "ooooooohhh" parts.

CRUNK would be a good word to describe Jeff's contribution to the last minute of this song.
